My Dad took on a job to paint this 1954 Ford NAA, all we took off was the hood and fenders, we taped everything else off that was not to be painted. We painted it, put it all back together and for whatever reason, the clutch will not disengage. We've tried adjusting it, but it still won't work. The only way it goes into gear is by slamming it in, then the tractor takes off and you can't take it back out of gear or stop the tractor without shutting it off. Can someone please help!!?? I've noticed there is a brake linkage that connects to the clutch, what is this? and what does it have to do with the clutch? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!! Please email me at zakL69@hotmail.com.

sorry to say use water. we used it becaused it was on a car and was easy to dry out, mostly by high speed driving. would;nt advise that with a tractor.

we had that problem with a car clutch.pulledit with a tractor and would only slide the back tires. then took flywheel cover off,and by spraying with water it finally released.might have to split tractor if all else fails.

"Brake Clean" would be a FAR better choice, rather than water, which will only cause MORE rust and corrosion!

Very common problem on the old ford tractors, your clutch disc is stuck to the flywheel or preassure plate. Block the pedel down for a day or 2 if that doesn't work then start it up, have open room to drive it and take a ride with the pedel pushed down. It may take 5 minutes or and hour for it to pop loose. The higher the gear and the more load you can put on it the better off you are. BTDT and keep a block on the pedel of one of my 8Ns all the time

Sometimes clutch disks stick to either the flywheel or pressure plate. I had this happen on a forklift after no more than a week. You may be able to push the clutch pedal and at the same time try to pry them apart if there is enough access.

Unless you have done something to the linkage, most likely, the lined clutch plate has stuck to the flywheel or the pressure plate due to a little rust or oil. It is a very common occurance for clutchs to stick like that.

Try blocking the clutch pedal down for a couple of days, and it may let go on it's own. For other suggestions, go to the "N" board, and enter "stuck clutch" in the search box.
