Well Phooey!

Two days ago, I'm makin' noises like I need another tractor to work on 'cause I was comletely done with the Hydro 70.

Wrong.

Must have made the ol' tractor mad 'cause today it up and dropped two cylinders on me. No noise, no prewarning, no nothing; just started running on four cylinders in the middle of a field.

Checked it out and it's got zero compression on #'s 2 and 3. Guess she maybe is jealous of me finding another? :>)

Allan

If you think of all the things going up and, down, and around in these tractors, it's amazing more stuff don't go bad. Good luck finding the problem. Stan

Hey Allen, sounds like you have a couple valves stuck open.Remove the valve cover and tap on the stems using some penetrating oil to free them up.After you get her running on all cylinders again, slowly pour about a half cup to a cup of brake fluid through the intake. That should clean the stems and guides up pretty good.

Sound like you have a couple of valves stuck open. The valve cover removal should reveal the culprit. Rocker arm broke off and wedged in there somehow and is keeping two valves open? Just a guess.

That hydro 70 must be a woman if she got upset that easily.

Be sure to check for water in oil and oil in water. Could be a head gasket blown between cylinders.

No bubbles in the radiator, no antifreeze in the oil. Piston tops and cylinders are clean as a whistle. No evidence of antifreeze leaking between the two.

I put air to #2 spark plug hole and it comes out #3. Air in #3 plug hole and it comes out #2.

Cracked head or gasket. Right?

Hopefully- beats having holes in adjacent pistons. Course then the air would pressurize the crankcase and blow out the dipstick!

Allan, lets hope it is a head gasket. That would be my guess anyway.

Better start whispering when considering another project!!!!! :>)

What are ya? A derned mind reader? :>)

I'm gonna pull the valve cover off and see if something is aray there. Strangest darned thing; was running fine one minute and the next it won't hardly pull itself.

Sounds like the head gasket is blowen between 2 and 3. There is a nice little narrow spot there that burns out. You will find the head might be warped along the length of it and warped across it. Take it to a machine shop if you do not have a precission straight edge to check it. Bob
