I suppose if I call it grass harvesting I can't call it the wrong thing ;)

There was at least three guys working this job -- the harvester operator, the tractor operator, and the truck driver. They're close enough to the home farm that they may not have even needed a second truck; certainly two would've been the most shuttling the chop back to the farm.

A couple weeks in after these photos, the owner was quoted in the paper talking about low milk prices that he had laid off a couple guys, took a $50,000 loan, and was considering selling some land -- and since then I've noticed one of his properties (the old Tarr farm on Route 44 in Pomfret) up for sale.

I can never get over how the average person is such a MORON when it comes to food. Orange juice comes from cartons! Chocolate milk comes from dark cows. Apples grow in a box in a majic warehouse somewhere. GOD help this country when we import ALL of our food. Remember what happen to the Roman Empire when their only supply of wheat was Egypt and the outer states! When you hear from the talking heads tell us that the "market" sets the price. BS and BS again. I pay at least $3.55 per gallon of milk and there is NO way the farmer got anything close to that in profit. The average farmer is lucky to make $1.50 an hour working the farm! You had to get me going again! Jeffcat

yep, dairy farmers have it rough right now, sure as shooting.. I know, I work for one.. darn near lives from milk check to milk check.. sad state of afairs.. I would hate to think what would happen if I farmed full time for a living.. getting hard to do these days..
