Here you go Allen, you wanted trouble, heres a Ford Commander 6000. I've never been on one of these rigs before, but I've heard nothing but bad about them and haven't seen one that still runs sold to date yet, and I've been to alot of auctions. These I believe had the troublesome Select O Speed transmission too. This one would take you a day or two to restore. How bout it?

on another note, there is an 826 hydro on E-bay right now, needs a little work (won't move) but doesn't look terrible.

Heck, the guy we buy hay from has something like 20-30 of those 6000's, I think somewhere around 15-20 run, the rest are either sitting where they blew or are parts tractors. I guess the verasll count is alomst 40 tractors, but he's got 1 or 2 newer ones with cabs and such and a few like 8n's and 600's. He's VERY strictly a Ford NH man.

Hey Allen...

If you're planning on staying with Red Power, maybe you should try a crawler. Something you can go out and play in the mud with. Even if you found a 10-20 TracTractor, or a T-20.

I know that may not be your first choice, but it would be a challenge...

Hey Hey Hey--take it easy on us Ford owners----Well the 6000 didn"t have a very good reputation but this on has a M&W turbo on it-- all the speeds work and if you learn to throttle back on the shifts it won"t throw you off the seat This is a 6000--and I have a 6000 Commander waiting for the paint shop it runs and shifts well also only no turbo and a wide front

I'd like to go but thats along drive and to take the 6000 and my 971 gold demo would be great--but the 6000 weights 8500 and the 971 about 3500 and my dually gets 5 MPG just too many things

Well I ripped pretty hard on the IH guys a day or two ago on T/A's, so tonight is Ford bashing night. Every manufacturer made atleast one lousy tractor that had problems over the years, for you Ford guys, this is one of them, and possibly the worst Ford made.

I don't know, it was actually just some pics I found on a website of somebody showing off their old sawmill. If it was for sale, it wouldn't be worth much more than scrap price since it said all the forward gears are gone so it is now used as just a power unit for that mill. I stuck them on here since I pretty well knew Allen wouldn't be interested in it, but I could still poke fun with it.

I dunno Jon,

Old tractors are kinda like burn jobs. A fella really has to look on past that "eye sore" part and think about what's underneath.

I guess that is why I'm so darned "red heavy". There was never a bad IH built; fact is, they were way overbuilt.

If ya don't look at the appearance of the thing, you start seeing all kinds of positive attributes. :>)

My dad had two of those when they were brand new
back in the 1960'S.Dad loaned his ford dealer friend some money which he waisted and dad ended up with two 6000'S.They did run good and were better on fuel than our JD tractors, but they would jerk your head off shifting and sometimes they would decide to take off with no one on the seat,so we never let them idle. The throttle and shift levers were exactly the same and i know of
people who were hurt buy grabing the wrong lever
thinking they were reving it up,instead it went into gear.At a local auction one went through there chain link fence with no driver.

You bet I would! I just like old tractors; all old tractors. :>)

I gotta get out and get some air. A fella up the road has a "decent" 1486 and I'm startin' to wonder if maybe that's my new girlfriend.

He's askin' an arm and a leg fer it tho and I kinda like to operate on the cheap. :>(

I stopped and took a few shots of that one I told you about yesterday. It's actually a 1586 -still haven't been able to find a price on the darn thing though. I can tell you it's been sitting there for the better part of a year, so I would guess they'd like to get rid of it. They've got a couple of Case 2390's that would probably be a fair comparison to the 1586, and they're wanting about $10,000 for them w/ about 9,000 hours. They haven't been there nearly as long though. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you the pics I took.

I know you say old, but a 1486 is way too new to be considered an antique, heck, it's almost too new to call it a classic. Since your looking at the big uns, how about an IH 5488?, those are quite the tractor?. I like you, lke all brands of tractors and equipment, they all have their good points and their bad, but I still enjoy a good debate about which is better!.

Shoot Allan what you call old and what I call old are 2 differant things. LOL. What I played on in the IH dealer ship in Liegh Neb. when I was a kid I don't think of old and that was back when the 706 and 806 sat new in the show room and your talking 1486 shoot thats a new new tractor to me. If its not made before 1960 or so I figure that to be to new to play with, and to easy to fix up. Of course if you haven't gone to my web site and seen my toys you might not understand LOL

If that Ford has a 256 cid diesel in it I could use the engine in a New Holland 912 Swather. Mine has an extra ventilation hole in the block.

IH might not a made a bad tractor but they badged some up that were. Those old 284's or whatever that don't share any other parts with the rest of the 84's are impossible to fix around here. They were a rebadged tractor from what I understand.

We had a 434 that was pretty much junk too. The brakes were terrible and could never keep brakes on it. Local dealer refused to work on it too, so we got rid of it while it still ran good.
