Got a 92 ford pickup that needs a new injection pump. Auto Zone get about $330 for one,no core needed. This is much less than I can get it rebuilt for. Think Auto Zone pumps have low grade rebuilds?

I saw your earlier post and tried pricing a few pumps at Autozone and I found none actually available. I came up with prices - but also a red warning stating "not yet available." I tried for an 85 Ford with 6.9, 94 Ford with turbo 7.3, etc. I tried with Artic package and without, and also high fuel delivery and low. Regardless - buying pumps anywhere can be a crapshoot. Different shops do things in different ways. Some will fix your pump on a "fix as needed" basis - and some will not and give you a fixed price. Some cores that get returned are not rebuildable from an economic viewpoint - whereas other pumps can be "rebuilt" for $50 in parts. So - with many shops - depending on their policy - it all evens out. You buy a pump thats "rebuilt", and it may - or may NOT have a lot of new parts in it. The term "rebuilt" usually means the pump meets test specs. and has new seals. It often will still have slightly worn parts in it. The distributor section of the Roosamaster/Stanadyne pump - one of the most essential parts - i.e. the "head and rotor" is also the most expensive part of the pump and is NOT replaced unless absolutely necessary. I've heard many times that a good rule of thumb is - take the highest price around, and the lowest, and feel safe whey you're paying somewhere in the middle. For a shop that consistently charges low-end - it would make me a bit skeptical. In regard to the other poster and Diesel-Care on Ebay. I called them in regard to fuel injectors they had advertised as NEW on Ebay. After calling and asking a few questions, I found out that are NOT new at all - by any definition. That turned me off - to me the word NEW means only one thing. Also - I wonder why a pump left their shop "not right" after it was rebuilt and tested on a stand.

sorry about posting the same thing. I couldn't find my first post. Was having computer/line problems and didn't think it got posted. I still can't find it using SEARCH for this site.
I checked autozone.com online and it indicates a person can only get the pump online. My local store claims they can get one. Maybe only certain stores can order them at this time.
I know Advance Auto only handles them online. They cost more and want the core back.

I was checking online at Autozone's website - I don't have a local store. So, it was at the website where I got prices along with the red warning "unavailable at this time."

Go to ebay and look up 7.3 injection pump. There is a guy out of Mephis Tenn selling on there. His shop is called diesel care. I put one of his pumps on my truck last year. The first pump I had from them had a problem right from the get. But, a phone call a new pump was here in 2 days. Not bad service from them at all. The pump is a easy install too. I would go with them again with out even thinking twice. They where the only shop that gave me answers about what was wrong with my pump and did not start off by saying just bring it in.

What Auto Zone has is fast moving parts and no service. And then we gripe cuz the other guy has to charge more for the parts you can't get anywhere else?
