Went looking at wedding bands this weekend and saw one that caught my eye. It was made of titanium carbide. Yes, the same stuff drill bits are made out of, polished up real nice.
I thought this would be perfect. If it was damaged, $25 and they would replace it. Since I feel like I tear up anvils sometimes, I thought this would work great.
Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. What would happen if the ring got stuck and they had to cut it off. What would happen? They can't engrave on the inside of the ring because they don't have a bit to do it yet. How would I ever be able to get it off? I am now thinking that traditional gold might be the wisest choice.

My Dremmel tool, with the stone cutting wheel cut Sally's (next door neighbor) ring off after she slammed it in a door and it became swollen. Titanium, I do not know but this sure worked well on gold. Cool with water while cutting.

Don't wear one anymore: Within a few weeks of my wedding, I got my hand caught and the ring crushed on my finger... Man that hurt! Neighbor boy jumped off a stake truck, and caught his on onr of the bolts that held the stake body together. He lost his finger! Wedding rings don't go with any manual labor, especially when working with electricity. Mine's been in the jewelry box, cracked, for 36 years. Still married to same gal!

I don't wear mine when working except last Monday while rolling up plastic snow fence. The fence caught the ring but the ring split at the weld??? I know an electrician who was wearing is as he slipped on a ladder. The ring caught as he fell and striped all the flesh off that finger to the bone. We are not allowed to even wear any metallic jewelry, watches etc at work. Too many cases of red or white hot jewelry after an electrical short. I know of some white collar background women who take great insult if their man ever removes his ring. They should spend some time in a Hospital Emergency Room on Saturdays or Sundays when all the injured "do it yourselfers" are hauled in with manged hands, feet or eye(s).

Why do you need a ring?? I had one when I got
married 40 years ago. Couple years later, I was
woking in concrete and took it off hung it on a nail in the cellar. Wife noticed some time later
asked where it was, told her it was on a nail in the
cellar. She went down and got it cleaned it up and
sometimes wears it to hold a neckerchief on. I still have the same wife.

Yep, That's probably the way to go and wiser investment wise too and just don't wear it when working. We carried the regular cheap thumb wheel ring cutter in every med bag on ambulances but they won't cut titanium. Who knows what the chances are of every hospital having one of the new electric ring cutters that will cut titanium? Link

I am no expert on this matter, and really don't or shouldn't be able to comment. But I wasn't about to buy one or wear one. Well she decided that I should have/wear one. She picked it out and we got it sized. This ring that I wear isn't a cheap one and she paid for the whole amount. Granted I have more than paid for it in other ways both financially and non-financially. Right now I am in So. Korea and she is in New Mexico. Other than a cheap watch I have never worn any jewelry as much as I wear this ring. Looking forward to September when I get back to the states and get to see her. I didn't take a mid-tour for a few reasons that I don't have room to fill into on this forum, but am looking forward to spending time with her when I get back and being able to travel to see her over the weekend.

Jim

Get whatever kind you want and take it off when you are working with your hands. Guy that used to help me almost lost a finger to his, cow pinched it between a backstop board and a post when she backed up. Took right at $10K to save his finger.

IMHO, if you are getting married in this day and age, having the ring stuck on your finger will be the least of your worries, in the future.

Good Luck!

It's not the ring on his finger that matters - it's the one in his nose that counts..... .....

Yeap got to agree. The one on the finger is nothing to the one in the nose. Will be married 5 years this winter. I never in my life thought I would expected to know everything and beable to do everything. Oh and you will also need mind reading lessons too. There is that hindden secert to marriage that the most important things are never spoken of, you just have to read her mind to understand. LOL Man I just had to answer this post and lighten the day. Go to walmart buy a cheap gold band. The price of the ring is nothing to the love in your heart. It does not matter if you wear one or not the love matters. I wear a cheap one and have had it bent and smashed numerious times. Cheap ones can be bent back to shape real easy. But, best advice is if you do alot of construction type or farming work wear just when you go to town. Or just go to a tatoo shop and have one inked on your finger.

I will recomend the gold/white gold ones too. They can be resized, they are cheaper, don't devalue to zero if the store goes under etc.

I looked hard at titanium but same drawbacks.
