I know this is very off topic, but not sure where else to post this. I helped a buddy cut down a Ginko tree and he let me have the logs. The tree was 45+ foot tall and the wood feels dense but lightweight. I've never heard of this kind of tree and I was wondering if anyone has burnt this stuff in a campfire before, and how well it burnt. Any help would be appreciated.

It"s the fruit of the female trees that stink, not the wood. Tree book should mention it: Ginkgo Biloba

Hi Rich. Are you sure it was a Ginko tree? I have been in the nusery biss for alot of years and have never seen one that big here in Iowa. They claim that the Ginko is one of the oldest trees on earth. S'posed to have grown wild when dinasoures walked around. They sure do stink. I'll bet your canpfire will smell the same.

Never heard of one so I did a Google search. Very interesting tree. Living fossil. Male and female. I Don't know any thing about trees but I did stay at a Holiday inn once.

Coloken; thanks for making me laugh, I needed that.

I was told it was a Ginko tree and I couldn't find it in the tree identification book I have to verify. I tried burning a little chunk tonite with my propane torch, didn't smell to bad, but seemed like it burned pretty quick.
