I was wondering if anyone out there operated a cat 330c excavator and if they have had any problems with the air conditioner getting weak when it gets above 90 degrees outside. Also where you are located and what if anything had been done to fix this problem. Thanks in advance. caterpillarman

I have to agree with Jonthan, one of the first thing I check when I get a customer says the A/C doesn't seem cold enough is the evaporator coil. Well actually the first thing is checking the pressures and then typically I move straight to the coil based on what I find. The problem I run into is to trying convince the operators that the machine has to be run with the doors shut all the time for the system to stay even relatively clean. That's a hard sell, especially for an excavator operator, and even more so if the machine's being used to set pipe, etc and the door is being left open for communication purposes. Still I have to stress to them if they want it to work when they need it, run the heat when it's cold and, if it's hot run the A/C, but don't run it with the doors open.... The filter behind the cab for the outside air intake is a paper filter and does a decent job of cleaning the air if outside air is being used but the one at the actual intake in the cab isn't so much a filter as a piece of extreemly course mesh to keep big stuff out. I've cleaned out two so far this year and both had the coils so stopped up with dust that I was really suprised that it had been passing enough air for the heat to have been working over the winter. If the 330c's A/C setup is anything like the one on a 320B it's a real pain in the a-- to take all the interior out from behind the seat and then to open up the housing in order to access the coil. The bad thing is the heating coil is first in line with the A/C coil burried behind it so it's not even possible to really blow the whole thing out using compressed air because the trach winds up just getting caught between the two coils making matters worse instead of getting blown out. Good luck.

No 330 exp. here either but like said check flow of air across evaporator from filters, check for a plugged condenser, greasy spots indicating leaks anywhere on AC lines or condenser or evaporator or compressor clutch seal.

no first hand experience with a Cat 330C but with other excavators in general... an often overlooked problem with A/C is a dirty cab air filter... they plug up quickly and are almost never cleaned as often as they should be... It should be in the ductwork filtering air that is drawn into the a/c system.... usually pretty accessible once u know where it is...
