Morning Guys,

Yeah, it's a cheap way to go, but it seems like I'm always fixin' this 'er that to make it work right.

Old truck box is rigged for sugar beets. I gotta make 'er grain tight in order to haul oats and wheat. Sure looks like I have my work cut out fer me. :>(

Gosh...If I'd known that you needed a better truck, I could bought one for you at the neighbor's auction the other day.

1946 IHC with nice Omaha grain box and hoist. Neat part about it, was that it was a Coca-Cola truck originally, and still had the vintage yellow paint with the red Coke lettering on the doors. Good old running and licensed truck for only $450!

(PS: I remember my Granddad spending a good forenoon, plugging holes with rags and roofing cement, to get ready to haul a load of flax.)

Years ago when we raised flax, that stuff would run like water so we would line the corners of the boxes with gunny sacks to fill the cracks & holes.

For a quick fix duct tape but if you are going to haul it to some elevator or seed place that is real picky or keep it for seed for the drill next time don't use the cheap tape that falls off. That dern tape can sure plug your drill next time seeding. We kept a water hose handy and laid in some diamond plate on top of those old truck floors with a wire welder. That plastic sheeting works good too. Use to could get paint with graphite in it for grain beds so it would slide out better.

AHhh some old feed sacks and DUCT TAPE will be fine . Way back in 78 i bought a brand new 30 foot EAST dump trailer and it would hold water up to the top of the small coal door but i found out that it had leaks in it when i loaded a load of what the called Aluminium bag dust as we sealed everything around the tailgate with duct tape and calk and found that there was a tiny pin hole on the left side bottom at one of the welds . It was like haulen water as this stuff never setteled and sloshed around from the time i left Bicknel Ind. till i got to Cleveland Oh. Had to watch how fast ya took turns and how fast ya stopped nasty stuff.

Every time some body buys a new pickup, I look in the box and say "it won't hold grain". For the last 15 years pickup boxes have a gap that might even let a log chain slide out.

And if your like me and accelerate quick with two pieces of railroad tie in the bed you have a much bigger gap in the middle of the tailgate than at the edges. I need to back into a pole and straighten it out...

WOw!

Do I remember that trick! :>)

Stuffin' the silly 'tator sacks in every corner every time ya wanted to haul grain.

Luckily, I think this old box is square enough that I won't have to resort to that measure.

Just needs some new sideboards that don't "swing" on hinges. The way it is set up now, those sideboards swing up and out.

Allan

Dunno,

Been toyin' with the idea of a caulkin' gun, silicone and the duct tape trick, but heck this old box needs rebuilding anyway.

Think I'm gonna take the time to cinch 'er up right. Might even throw a coat of paint on the ol' sow. Darned sure needs that bed oiled. :>)

Mornin Allan

Used my truck to haul corn and beans all the time with no leaks.

Grew some wheat a few years ago and filled the truck to haul wheat to town.

Left a trail to find my way home.

Nothing a roll of duct tape couldn't fix.

Gary

Have you thought about painting it with line-a-bed?

Think that would work?
