Hi Guys;
Spotted this outfit parked up during a trip into South Wales - big dairy farming grassland region.
Tractor is big Valtra (part of Agco group) made in Sweden. Sorry dont know HP, no driver about.
Each mower is 3metre - 10 feet wide = 30 feet total width. Note on the mower decks you can just see the plastic "flails" used to condition the grass immediately after cutting. This is to crack & bruise the grass stems to speed up wilting.
Note the yellow staining on the tractor hood & mower body is pollen off the grass.
Hope you enjoy. Cheers David

David, This Claas machine and the Krone big M below are the ones I was trying to tell you about before that I've seen in fields around here cutting feed for the big dairies now. Takes 6-8 choppers and several trucks to keep up with one.

Looks like a Fendt (AGCO) painted red... Are they? Fendts are the cadilacs in my area with hydraulic over gear drive transmissions so you always have a constant pull, and infinate speeds. Definately not cheap though...

Those mowers were made by Vicon. Have you seen a Krone Big M II self propelled mower?, cuts a 32ft swath, they also make mowers just like the Vicon in the picture. Equipment is just getting bigger and bigger.

Valtra? Were they not recently bought out by Agco? I may bleed green but I would purchase a Valtra before a JD 5000 series .

Valtra are the hottest tractor round here there is a local dealer selling them faster then he can get them in. They are a great value for the price and quality of tractor you get.

Morning all;
MITCH - Sorry I'm not Scooby in DB forum. Im a Blue & Orange man (though can admit to owning 2 green & yellow tractors). So next few posts will be Fordson Majors - the English Classic tractor equivalent of JD 4020.
ILLINOIS BOY - |Wiltshire is on the south coast of England, gentle rolling countryside growing mainly grain crops. Very pretty & unspoiled. If you want to know more about that part of England read any book by A G Street who farmed there from 1920's to 1960's; very descriptive and informative of farming growing grain and rearing sheep.
ALL - I currently live in Shropshire county, in the middle of England that borders Wales. But in August am relocating to Pembrokeshire county, the most southwest tip of Wales. So its a move from intensive arable farming to intensive grassland farming area. Cows & sheep, and nice rolling grassland with small woods on the valley sides.
Will carry on posting photos of farming here for your pleasure, as I enjoy seeing pictures from the US States and learning about life in America.
Cheers David

David Are you known as Scooby on the David Brown tractor forum. Enjoying the photos either way. You guys were talking of rain on some of the topics before, just for the record some parts of southern Queensland here in Australiahave only received 20mm of rain since last November. In that time you would normally get 400-500mm. Very drought stricken.

Mitch

Great pictures, I'm in Alberta Canada and we do see some Valtra's around here, they have a good reputation from what I hear. I have never seen a mower set up like that, around here they use the so called bat wing mowers, three 8 foot sections, the two out side ones fold up for moving. Looks like nice farming country over there, I want to visit some day. Keep up the pictures

Hi Rusty Farmall.
Way back in time Volvo Trucks owned the tractor plant. Then the tractors were named VALMET, and today Valtra.
From Valmet days you could buy one in red, green, blue, yellow or white. They changed the tinwork colours for individual farmers choice. Today you can have different colours but they are metalic finish.
Cheers David

David,
There was a Valmet that manufactured some rifles and high dollar shgotguns some time ago - I think company was based in Sweden - would you know if it"s the same company?
Also - where are you at? My grandfather came to the US from Wiltshire... are you anywhere near there?

Wow! That is sweet! Not many Valtra's in this part of the world but I have heard they are a real Cadillac. I have a Vicon disc mower, but nothing like that!

Every so often I see one of those Valtras around here, but they are always all red.
