Transmission Oil

I have a Cub Cadet Garden Tractor. The transmission requires 6 qts of Oil at $9.00 a qt. I was told that any hydrolic oil will work. I have a 5 gallon bucket of AW 32 hydrolic oil and would like to use this. Does anyone out there know about this?

Naturally CC wants me to use their oil; however at that cost I would like a less costly alternative.

Thanks,

Tom

Any wet clutches or brakes in that Cadet? The El'cheapo oil doesn't say wet clutch compatable, because it isn't.

Generally plain hydraulic oil like aw 32/46 is only good in hydraulic systems.. like pumps and rams.. not in trannies and gear boxes...

I think I'd spend the 36$.. or at yery least ( if out of warrranty ) use a synthetic UTF oil.. which may cost you just as much as the stuff you are suposed to use anyway..

If it's a fairly recent one and is still under warranty, buy the Cub Cadet Oil. Later Cub Cadets use a different transmission oil than the older ones, I don't know what the difference is, but the dealer I deal with says don't mix them.

If it's an older one, (pre-1981), with hydrostatic drive, use Case/IH Hytran, available from any Case/IH dealer. You can buy it in quarts, gallons, 5 gallon pails, 55 gallon drums etc.

If it is gear drive, I don't know.

I just got off the phone with the guy that services CC and he says no, do not use regular hydrolic oil. You must use the CC fluid master synthetic blend.

Would need to know if its a manual or hydrostatic transmission- if manual, hydraulic oil seems way too low a viscosity; if hydrostatic, I'd be sure I got "the word" from someone who really knows what he is talking about, as the choice of oil may be very critical.
