I ordered a Tread Saver ball joint from Advance Auto parts. What I got was a OE BRAND joint made in China that was subsituted for the USA made Tread Saver. The machining was not done right so it would not seat. Couldn't seem to install the cotter key in the lower joint. Didn't realize what was going on until I tightened the top joint and the top joint was pulled from its seat. Also the shank is much thinner at the seal area and the grip ring that came with it was for a smaller joint. I heard that there was a fire at the factory that makes the Tread Saver. Tread Saver is owened by Federal mogul.
Maybe these should be recalled.

Go to O'Reilly Auto Parts, if you have one in your area, and get a branded Moog part. They also handle an import brand, Auto Drive, that is imported but I believe most of the Moog branded parts are quality, domestic pieces for the most part.

It's Federal-Mogul. What, you expected quality from them? They've got a long history of buying good names and destroying their products.

8-10 years ago or so I bought some cheap rotors for my 1992 F-150 truck. Those cheap rotors lasted about 5000-10000 miles until they were warped real bad. China junk. Like the old saying goes...you get what you pay for. if you buy junk you get junk, it is hard to get away from it though.

Most newer vehicles have a note in the Owners manual, to the effect of "Did you find a defect that should be reported to the National Highway Safety Administration" with a how-to. You could probably do the same on-line. Check it out, report it. Sub-standard parts cause accidents, cover your rear, report it.

Quite honestly I don't know where a fellow can get a good part anymore. I replaced the wheel bearings on my 84 F-250....pulled out bearings made in japan.....the ones I got from NAPA were made in Mexico. I gave up on Autozone and Advance a long time ago.....thought maybe NAPA was better..... .

Where do yall get decent parts?

Japanese parts aren't all that bad really, they've come a long way vs. their Asian counter-part China. Heck, my Micrometers and a few of my other tools are Mitutoyo, a Japanese company. Also one of the best, right up there with Starrett, but I prefer Mitutoyo.

I drove a NIssan pickup for about 12 years. When I traded it in, the speedometer had 352,000 miles on it. It quite working about 6 monthe before I traded.
I now have a Toyota - got 226,000 miles on it to date - no sign of letting up. LUBE, OIL, FILTER - and they don"t not make "cheap" parts for these trucks or they"d never take that kind of wear.
My family hates these Japanese trucks - I say this.
I know the US auto manufacturers can make a better truck than the Japanese - so why don"t they?
