After getting beans in and re-planting a couple acres of corn that got drowned out,got a chance to make hay. It"s drier than a popcorn fart here in SE Mn.,but still had a nice 1st alfalfa cutting.Have another 10 acres to go.
Corn looks good(7" tall),beans need rain.
Oliver 1650 diesel,and JD 14-T baler.
Enjoy!! ~brad

Great picture. I have a question or two. Is the trailer pulled behind the bailer?, and how do you get the bailes up high? Dad always liked to put as much hay on his truck as possible when picking it out of the field. We would hook hay hooks to gether and pull like heck to get the top ones up. It is a wonder no one got hurt. That was a long time ago. Stan in calif.

37 chief,
Yes,the wagon is pulled behind the baler from a hitch attatched to the main frame.
Getti'n the bales up that high doesn't happen every crop, but this one was easy because the hay didn't get rained on,and it was a dry,hot day.
I should also add that my brother & I are 6-1. ~brad

I too use an Oliver 1650 diesel and a JD 14T baler, but niether of them look that good. haha I was only baling a mostly grass mix. I'm with the earlier post, 8 stacks is to much for my 5-4 frame.

Makes me wish I was there. Believe it or not, this young gun likes baling hay. As long as I drink enough water to keep my hands/arms from cramping up, I love it. Not too sure about 8 layers though. Dang near twice my height. lol

I wish you were here too,'cause we're doing it again on Sunday & hate to hog-up all the fun(ha ha).I bet I drank a couple gallons of water today.I always tell the kids we stick up in the barn it's a good way to sweat the whiskey out of their systems.

Only two bales on the elevator at a time? When I helped a neighbor mow hay years ago he always had at least 5 bales on it at a time, but he always had two kids in the loft keeping it away or ay least trying to.

MN Scott,
Yeah,we only had one guy in the barn this time.
I can remember three guys in the barn and more than 5 bales on that elevator.

Brad,
That sure brings back memories. I can remember I always got stuck up in the attic and boy it was hot up there 90 degrees in the shade. Only got paid $1.00 an hour back then. Mike

Mike,
I got stuck up there as a boy too.
I graduated to alternating driving/stacking w/my younger brother.
Also, since we had the barn roof redone with white tin,it seems alot cooler up there.

There isn't really 210 is there. Looks like one long down the middle and two on either side which makes 5 per long bale and it appears there are 5 bales long ways. So that means 25 per layer. Looks like 6 full layers so that is 150 and 16 on the 7th and 7 on the top minus two from the 6th layer so we end up with 171. Of course I could be totally wrong. Either way that is a load and a half for those tires! Nice and green even if it is dry.

Joe-Bob/IN,
How 'bout around 200? We have one bigger rack which holds a solid 200+, but depends on bale quality. It is quite a jag,but hay was nice & dry.Take care ~brad

I can live with "around 200"! We have a dozen wagons, most are 9' wide and a few the neighbor sold us are 8'. The ones we built are 20' and one is 22'. They hold 36 bales on a layer and 39 respectively. Normaly 6 layers high so you can get 216 minus 2 or 3 off the tie on top and 234 minus a few. Go to 7 layers and 250 or 270! All you really want on even tandem axle gears! Nice pics by the way.

Dollar and hour, man do I remember that. Was 11 when I started working for a dairy putting up hay. I was a big, tall kid and darn it, only got to drive empty back to the field, was always helping load. Wouldnt go back and change anything though.
