Ahh, the great little town of Pierz, Mn. I'm just to the north and west of it a few miles. Right in the central part of the State. Thirteen miles to the east of Little Falls, about 30 miles south of Brainerd, and a good 45 minute drive north of the St. Cloud area. Own a farm that has been in the family for over 120 years.

I was born in St.Cloud, parents spent a year in a partnership deal on a small resort on Howard Lake near Akley when I was about five, then settled on some land between Grey Eagle and Burtrum, SE Todd county, about halfway catty corner between St.Cloud and Alex if you were to draw it on a map. Moved after high school to south FL for a summer job fixing big boats that never ended, live in Savannah GA now. Parents still live there and I go back to hunt each fall, I would love to move back there but my VA bred southern wife thinks it"s pretty country but it would be too far from her family and "everyone talks funny"- HA! At least you can understand a Minnesotan, not like some of those mush mouthed southern family members of hers. I also miss snowmobiling very badly, and ice fishing.

About as far SE in the state as you can get. The farm is 5 miles from Iowa and 5 from Wisconsin. Nearby town is Caledonia. The terrain is hilly bluff country.

I don't post much, usually something sarcastic (I think it is funny, others may not think so), I currently live in the Farmington area, have 10 acres of beautiful peet ground,5750 sq ft of greenhouse space, and am trying to figure out a way to make it pay. I have lived in MN most of my adult life, although I was raised in NE IA, on a diverse farm (corn, oats, hay, hogs, beef cattle, sheep, chickens and of course milk cows). I truly enjoy this site, and look forward to hearing of everyones trials and tribulations, trying to scratch a living from the dirt. JohnG

Even though I'm not from MN, my Dad's family is from the Pine River - Nisswa area. I've still got a number of Uncles, Aunts and Cousins in the area.

On my Mom's side, I have a Aunt that lives in Austin, after retiring from teaching down there.

My Inlaws lived for 30+ years on Ten Mile Lake at Dalton.

Springfield, MN....Dad was a small farmer between New Ulm..Sleepy Eye...Hanska and Essig. My parents had 10 kids. They made a living on 216 acres. Dad had older John Deere equipment. When Dad got married he traded his Indian motorcycle for a John Deere MT (still uses the MT). I'm an electrician...re-married and living on my wifes farm that she rents out. She bought some land from her uncle...It's for hunting. I'm trying to farm the hills a bit.

Hi. I am 22 miles SW of Ames Ia. south of Boone. I never lived in MN. but I have deep family roots in SE MN.,might be why i love that part of the country. My Dad came from around Mable-Newburg. He left there in 1942 when he was drafted into the Army and they sent him down here to Fort Des Moines. Seams like that where the Hellicksons settled when they came from Norway. My Dads uncle Howard Hellickson used to live in Spring Grove, had a resturant and a farm. He had a cousin,Lyel, not sure how to spell it,Umdahl who used to own the old store in Newburg. Dad's dad was from Sping Grove but I don't remember his name. He was killed in France,WWI,1918 before Dad was born. Everyone up there is gone now and Dad is too. It has been a long time since I was in Spring Grove, before 1954. I hardly remember the town. I would like to see it again and look for my Grandpas's grave. Sorry for the long post when I don't live there. When Dad was 7 yrs. old he was placed in the MN. State Orphanage at Owattona. I might be up there this weekend to Shakope at the MOPARS IN THE PARK car show.

Hey Norske,

Although I now live in Middle Tennessee, back during the early 70's I worked at IBM in Rochester, lived in Stewartville, and rented 120 acres outside of Stewartville to farm. One of my best friends was Harry Larsen who lived and farmed near Hayfield. I loved SE Minnesota and wanted to stay there, but circumstances made it impossible to do so.

Are you farming?
