I'm in my 4th year of pulling implements and my neck still kills me after being on a tractor all day.I think its worse now because I am using a new discbine where I can play with the hydraulics to pull it in and swing it out on turns(was using a moco). But man it gets stiff at night. Is this normal or does it take a lifetime of running equipment to get used to it?

I set a little skewed in the seat and it feels strange to look straight ahead. I think you have to get acclimated to it as a child before your neck stops growing. But yeah, I agree with the lower back thing, you can't hold the trunk of you body twisted and bouncing for 50 years without doing permanent damage. Ice packs help. So do hot baths and aspirin.

"I wish that there were some wonderful place
In the Land of Beginning Again.
Where all our mistakes and all our heartaches
And all of our poor selfish grief
Could be dropped like a shabby old coat at the door
and never put on again.

Rick this is the tractor that is breaking my neck LOL.I dont know, just after being in the tractor all day looking back my neck feels a little stiff.I guess I thought it would be more common.I'm completely fine no nerve damage or crick. But this morning I can tell I was on the tractor all day.I guess without the years of experience I have to watch what is going on more closely.

Agco replaced the 4300 series with the 5400 series under massey. Then they basicaly took the 4300's and now market them under the agco name and challenger name.Really doesnt make sence to me why they have so many brands.

No this is usually not normal. try gettin gout once in why to stretch maybe that help. I run same unit and get along find. Although some tractor do ride way rougher than others, not knowing what you are on.
I also do this on my unit,I have mirrors both sides outside cab and a unit inside cab. have those adjusted so most of the time I just watch machine in them and never twist around that much.I does make a difference. You can also get a swivel to mount under your seat so your whole bod sorta sets side asddle. I like the mirrors.

Answer no, unless you run equipment like a friend of mine. He only looks forward and when you have a baler of mower on thats not good.

The neck still turns better to the right than to the left.

That's why I like to have more mirrors. Doesn't work too well for other things, though... But I'm thinking about finding an inverter and a cheap closed-circuit camera arrangement I can stuff in the cab so I can point it where I want it.

What can I say? I'm a geek!

I actually prefer running the swing tongue moco... at least you get equal time looking both ways.

Best way I can think of to cure it is to get one of them there fancy bi-directional tractors or a fancy swather with a hay head... :o)

I'm no Doctor or Chiroprator but it doesn't sound normal to me.
I'd have a x-ray taken to see if you do have a problem. May possibly be a pinched nerve? Take Care Mike

Yeah, it goes away. It goes a way down low in your back and sets up housekeeping!

The trick is to start conditioning a couple months before tractor season starts. Do this by turning your recliner around so your back is to the TV. Two months of turning your head to watch the boob tube will put you in shape for a summer of neck twisting on the tractor. Good luck!
