Hi Guys,

Sometimes ya just have to decide if you're gonna fish or cut bait.

If it doesn't rain in the next day or two, I've got to get in the field to get what's there and I just haven't got time to be putzin' around.

This darned old rake just is not worth fixin. I can trade way, way cheaper and I never should have bought the thing to start with, I guess.

It means a 200 mile drive, but she's goin' down the road in the morning. :>(

I told ya - you could bring it down here to the SE corner of Nebraska and I'd take her! I NEED to find an old relic like that to play with!

I'm a little disappointed in myself on this one. Should have looked it over a little better before I took the hook on the "bargin".

Oh well, the next feller can tinker with it; I'm gettin' it out of the yard so I don't have to look at it anymore. :>)

I'm glad that I'm not the only person with the "I shoulda never bought that _____ ____" syndrome. I've been known to think something is a pretty good deal only to find that I didn't think the situation through carefully enough. Tim

I don't blame you for trading it off and after remembering what fun it was to fix and modify the one we had and seeing what parts cost today. NOT fun. Also that rake is only 50+ years old... 851 rake was made in 1952 till ?? and 858 was made 1955 till ??. Not so much it is green but geeze who but JD would still have any parts for a rake that old and they didn't show to have much for them anymore. See a lot of the NH or Vermeer rakes used in this area now. Have a good trip and show us later what you trade for. :)

Allan, sounds like a plan. You better hurry. I think we are getting your rain, was in the high 90's last week, started raining Friday. Looks like it will be raining all this week and temp's in the 70's.

I'll direct some of this liquid sunshine your way to get that alfalfa a finishing push. Hopefully you will get to use your windshield wires on your 200 mile jount!!! :>)

Allan,

Sounds like a plan. I too, have regretted not "test driving" farm equipment first. Whats really fun is to buy a tractor with an undetected blown head gasket.
Good plan on flipping windrows. My V rake is not too good for that.
