My 1975 Ford 3000 has an important oil leakage on the left side of the brake cross shaft (the clutch side).I suppose it is a seal leaking problem.

Questions:
Is the seal readily available only at New Holland Ford dealers or at any NAPA daelers? What would be the part number?
Can an unexperienced person fix it? It seems quite easy to remove the shaft; is it really the case? Even if only the left side is leaking,is it better to change both sides to avoid future repairs?
What would be the approximate cost to have the job done at the dealer?

I did it on my '67 3000 w/o too much hassle and I am not a mechanic. I also had a small leak, but mainly the clutch pedal bushing was worn out.

I ordered an aftermarket cross shaft and could not tell the difference from the original, other than the wear. Could tell a difference in price though. New Holland dealer wanted $95 and the mail order was under $40. Even the parts guy at NH admitted they probably came from the same manufacturer. Sorry - can't recall where I got offhand.

I would go ahead and replace the clutch pedal bushing. Had that done by NH dealer and even they had problem and needed to heat w/torch to get bushing in. Also got the seals from NH.

Only problem I had was frozen bolt on the brake side and, for whatever reason (stupidity or wrong tool), getting the old seals out. Easier to get that C clip on if you have right tool.

Look over other external linkage parts on clutch side. If worn, replace it while you got it apart and reset pedal travel per book.

Look at this scan and see if you spot what you need. If so, give me the item number and I"ll look it up and give you the part number. Sometimes with the Ford part number, NAPA can cross reference it (if the counter guy wants to take the time). Sorry the pic is so big, I tried to make it smaller but you couldn"t read it.

It is not easy to identify the parts needed from the scan's view. I know these are the seals that have to be replaced. So, I would guess these are probably parts 31-31A. Moreover, I will also check if bushings have to be replaced, probably parts 32.

31 is the one I was thinking it may be. Here is a scan of part of the parts list page showing those items, I hope it helps in some way. In my past experience a lot of the part numbers have changed to new numbers so it may be wise to call your CFNH dealer to verify the numbers before calling a NAPA.
Good luck!

Champ,
I always look first to see if the fine folks that host this FREE site have the part. It's my way way of supporting them.
I didn't see it here so I would say check your dealer.
The job is pretty easy. Drain the fluid first.
Disconnect the linkage for the clutch, brakes etc.
Mine was greasy so it was a little difficult to see the big circlip that holds the Right pedal on. I think I would replace both of them. But that's just how I do things.
You can do it.
Jerry
