I was wondering what the best products are to keep tires from dryrotting. I was telling my brother in law today about the tire on my allis having a big tear in it from dryrot,(tire is at least 30 years old and may be 50). He then complained of his tires on his boat trailer dryrotting in 4 or 5 years time. I told him if anybody knew you guys would. Thank alot.

Mike

With well rigs in NM (50s), problems were hot sun, dry air, little travel on tires to keep them "live". We either blocked up rig to take weight off, or removed wheels to store inside, and let a little air out. If outside (and when drilling) had light sheet-metal covers to keep sun off and splashing from baling, made to leave 5-6" space so hot metal not against tire. Also used a "rubber lubricant" every month or so. If boat trailer stored outside, blocking up and covering from weather could help, as well as rubber preservatives.

Quick. cheap and easy.Spray them with silicone spray every 6 months or so.Silicone is nothing more than microscopic glass beads and they will eventually roll off the tire.Tire manufacturers use it as a mold release. That is why some tires feel slick when new.The silicone seals the tire from ozone which causes tires to deteriorate(dry rot)

Had a camper on brand new tires. Parked it for seven years. Kept the sun of of them and when I went to move it the tires were like the day I parked it. The UV rays are what kills the rubber in tires. Protect them from the sun and they will last a long time.
