What are the pros and cons of a rear finish mower and a middle mount mower?

Thanks for the comments. I think I will go for the rear mower.

I agree with all of Mike's comments. I have a 6 ft. finish mower and I went to a zero turn mower which is much more manuverable and faster. Also much more expensive.

Some of the pros of a rear mount I have found are
- easy to attach and detach freeing up tractor for other uses.
- The one I had mowed and followed the ground better.
- You can lift it up higher and even back under stuff and down partly over a ditch bank.
- You can lift it up put a saftey block under it and clean it out and service the blades.
- Less dust bothering my allergies I'm thinking of going back to one except for the main CON I have too many obstecials to go around and it does kink your neck more.

We had a Continental belly mower on a MF 135 once and it was okay if you stayed on everything flat and level. Go through a ditch or gully and high center or catch the rear frame on a high spot and you are stuck. It was such a pain to put on and off that it was dedicated to just mowing in summertime. It was easier to get close to things with it though. With a rear mower you can raise to clear high spots and keep the tractor usable for many other things also. Might also want turf tires with a belly mower tractor too because you will be turning sharper and bar tread will rip out a lawn turning sharp.

I am in the process of switching from a rear mount to a mid mount mower. The mid mount, I have found, lets me get closer to things than the rear mower. The rear mower does not scalp as bad as the midmount. I suspect it will just be a matter of getting used to the new mower and adjusting my mowing pattern to compensate. The rear mower is easier to take off so you can use the tractor for other things. I dedicated a tractor to just the midmount mower. Tractor for each implement.
