Got my H farmall running over the past weekend, trying to finish up sheetmetal and paint but my wife asked if I would bite the bullet and mow with the ford and 4ft. bush hog just to get it knocked down for the time being.Kinda neglected the 9n after getting the h and it cost me half a day had to clean crud out of tank and do a quick rebuild on the marvel schebler carb. buy a new battery and change the oil and filter. After getting it started found leak in radiator hose another trip to napa.Got to mow for about 3 acres and blew fan belt another trip to napa.got that done got done mowing with the gutless little thing(grass was only 20 inches tall) right at dark.God I can wait to get the H done I am so freakin anxious there is no comparison between the two tractors but I have to say the 9n has been one tough little machine..... I gotta go with old on this one! You say you had to do a lot of work to get her running - she just might be getting old and tired! I used to run a 9N for mowing (before I got an 8N of my own), never had a bit of trouble with a 5' hog. I mow several acres with my 8N and the 5' JD hog, the grass is ALWAYS over 20" - never have a problem! Your grass might be different. I grew up Ih and have 3 (H, M, 454), but wouldn't trade my Ford for nothing! It does most of the work around here!

The H is in the same power class as the 9N, but it is a taste heavier and I believe it torques out a little better, snce it has overhead valves. The 9N is, on the whole, a more useful tractor since it has hydraulics and a three point.

Hi River, Yesterday I was 2o min.s from being done mowing with my H when it just ran out of power. Could disengage the mower and rpm,s would pick right up so I think I sucked up some junk from my gas tank. In fact I can't find that little card board gasket on the lid of my old metal gas can. May have poured it into my tank. Anyway had to finish with my wife's new "old" cub. Half the power. Half the cut at one time time, half the speed. But you know I had a very good time on the little tractor. Didn't need my ear plugs and the finish cut looked very nice. But in your case there is no way the cubbie could handle 20 inch grass. I would have to buy a goat or something for that. I was just glad to have a back up machine to finish. You just can't get in a hurry. It does tick you off though when you spend the whole day just to keep em running. I guess that's the price we pay for using old iron. At least we don't have a $600 a month tractor payment. Whewww!

I can see the attraction to the H, one down the road for sale, dressed up real pretty (new paint) and no visable leak residue anywhere. Only problem is the joker put a toy JD in the jar. Guess you get 2 for 1 if you buy. Will your H use a belly mower? I can see that would be a step up. Good luck.

Don't know how you can say the 2 don't compare. By the Neb tests the 9N ford has 23HP and guess what same tests says the H has yep you guessed it 23HP. So you can compare them since if both run right they have the same HP. Sorry I don't knock any tractor all of them have there good points and bad points. And yes I own both a 9N, 8N ,and a farmall H, plus about 25-30 other tractors of most colors
