Which tractor would you prefer JD 4010 or IH 806?
I am looking at a couple of each of these models to buy but can't decide.

The 806 will outpull a 4010, that is about it. About every other aspect of the machines the JD takes it. The 806 compaired to the 4020 it competed against even looses the power advantage.

Read a little about the 806D. I guess that Diesle engine was just about bullet proof on that thing. No one really knows why they are so long lifed but I guess they just run and run and run.
Most Farmers around here buy and sell tractors all the time but the 806's stay on the Farm even after they retire they say the 806 is gona stay.

Both are very good tractors. Which one has a dealer nearby? The 806 will likely be cheaper. I am biased toward the 806 since I grew up on one. They sure sound good pulling hard with a turbo and a straight pipe.

Heck,

When faced with a situation like this, you should probably consider buyin' 'em both. :>)

I sure don't need anymore tractors, but wife seems to think I should have one with a cab.

But she kinda thinks it ought to be a green type with a cab.

Oh Man! I must be livin' right. :>)

hey come on now do you realey have to ask. ha lol...ok i will say that for feild work and strait hard pulling the 806 was way better tracter and a pet peave of mine on the 4010s has always been is why dident they make the dang oil pan bigger because i have always beleaved if you run the jd.s hard you just burn up the oil....when they were used more for farming they had thear share of engine failuer but i do like my old jds for haying. but they are getting kina old---but at least you can still get parts for them---some ih parts are getting a littel hard to come by.

806 all the way. One of the best IH ever made the D361 engine is hard to beat.

I`m kinda partial to green, but would take a nice 806 in a heartbeat. Been lookin at too many of Allan`s pictures I guess. You didn`t give much info. Gas or diesel, what are you gonna be using it for, etc? There`s guys on here that know alot more about these two models than I do. If you give some more info, I`m sure they`ll jump in and give you some good advice.

All the ones I have looked at are deisels and in good shape. For this year the tractor will be mainly used to make hay with and other small farm chores but with in a few years it will probably be used for all farm work from plowing to raking hay.

For heavy tillage get a 806 for making hay a 4010, its up for you to decide what you are going to use the tractor most for.
