I have a 1992 Dodge 250 4X4, Cummins, 5 speed. I seldom drive it, but it is still a good truck.. I bought it new, has 115k miles, Body is straight, but needs paint badly.Interior is rough... A guy is bugging me to sell it, he has a high end body shop, & wants to trick it out with a custom paint job & interior. He keeps calling & stopping by, acts desperate to get it. Money has not been discussed. Kelly Blue Book for private sale is a shade over 4,000.00 I love the old truck, it has been a faithful servant. But, to paint it, do the interior, get new tires, etc. is going to set me back around 4 grand, I figure... Hard decision to make... I think he is willing to pay top price, & the poor old truck would get a new lease on life.

I have a 96 diesel 4x4 with 146K I'll sell for $10 Grand, only because I rarely use it, and don't need it anymore. All the paint fell off the hood though. I'm in central Texas if anyone is interested.

I have a 91 with 225,000 miles. Has some rust and a small dent or two. Interior is good. I've been trying to sell it, though not that hard, but nobody wants to buy it. I loved the truck, but too rough for an infant to ride in. I'd rather drive that than my f150.

SO YOU THINK YOU HAVE AN OLD DODGE TRUCK HUH ? WELL, I OWN A 1971 DODGE D300 1 TON 4x4 WITH SADDLE TANK - TOOL BOX - OVERLOADS - TRAILER HITCH - GRAIN DUMP BOX - 8 FOOT SNOW-PLOW AND 10,000 LB WARN WINCH UNDER THE FRONT -- 318 CUBIC-INCH V-8 WITH 31000 ACTUAL MILES, I GUESS I DON'T DRIVE IT MUCH, BUT IT SURE COMES IN HANDY WHEN I DO, I'VE HAD PEOPLE PUT NOTES ON THE WINDSHIELD ALL THE TIME TO BUY THIS OLE TRUCK WHEN EVER I TAKE IT OUT FOR A SPIN, BUT I SURE COULD NOT REPLACE IT FOR WHAT I NEED IT FOR, AS LITTLE AS THAT IS.

I NEVER DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE WINTER, CAUSE I DON'T WANT SALT TO RUST IT OUT, AND IT SURE DON'T HAVE ANY RUST THAT I CAN SEE. IT'S BEEN MY PRIDE AND JOY FOR 35 YEARS, AND WE GET ALONG JUST FINE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN AN OLE TRUCK WILL COME IN HANDY....

Thanks for the input... kinda puts things in perspective. The fact that I know the truck's history, since I bought it new, is worth something. Now I am leaning toward keeping it, unless he comes up with some sky-high offer. Yes, I realize that just the engine would bring quite a good price, being low mileage. Thanks again...

Just because someone wants it is no reason to sell it CHEAP. I have a '98, should have kept my '92 also. A friend just gave $5000 for a '99 2wd with 350K. Keep it, or ask a lot more for it.

Blue book? You can't touch a used Cummins with those miles for that, and I'm not talking truck, I'm talking just the Cummins. It's your truck, your decision.

Had a '94 Cummins, have an '96 and an '02. I look at that '02 and its a nice truck. Rarely use it, use the '96 daily. But I think to myself, am making payments on that '02, that started not long after the '94 was paid off, because I saw and liked the '02 and got a bug up my rear end. So, I traded in the '94 on the '02, and cash, and payments. Then had to go out and get a beater, the '96 because I want the '02 around for another decade or three, even if diesel doesn't exist anymore. Yep, the '02 is nice, the '96 keeps ticking like a timex, and the '94 was paid off, looked good, ran good, had around a 100K on it. What a moron I can be sometimes, looking back on it all now.

Its your truck, your decision. Either make my same mistakes, or don't. And if you choose to make my mistakes, they become your mistakes.

Mark

No doubt, I'd expect it to bring at least $10K in 'as-is' condition here. I'd be tickled to find one with that few miles for that kind of money. If I could, I'd put a gooseneck plate in it and keep it for a trailer puller. Seems like everytime I need to pull a trailer I also need my '02 diesel to do something else with and end up using my 'beater' truck, 1975 Ford 390 gas hog.

Ha Ha Ha Ha. A 75 Ford with a 390 was a stout truck. You're right, gas hog, but a stout truck nonetheless.

Its Davis's truck and his business, but I'd ask the guy nicely to look somewhere else, or maybe get a South Carolina vanity plate that says "NOT4SALE".

I have two of those old Dodge's, a 92' 350 4x4 club cab with a 5-speed, and a 93 250 regular cab 4x2 auto. I wouldn't trade either of them for love nor money. They don't make trucks like these any more. My 92' has got over 275k on it and it has had a hard life and still is a great truck. My wife drives the 93' and she used to drive a brand new Jeep Liberty CRD and she made the decision to sell it and for her to drive the 93'. I'd keep it. As someone else said, get a Maaco paint job, get some tires, you can buy a new rubber floor mat for about $150, get the seat recovered for $200, and you got a pretty good truck. At 100k miles that thing isn't a quarter used up. New one's are $30-40k, I sell them. If you sell it you will regret it.

Maco Type paint job, tires, should be under $1500 cummins with barely over 100k Carolina without New England rust, easy choice.

Brother in law has same truck, just turned 300k, probably has one of the best trannys around. What happened to Chrysler since then? But it is a work truck, hard ride, personal decision, good luck replacement cost is probably around 35k.

I have one with 165000 miles and only put 6 to 8000 miles on it each year and I hope mine lasts another 14 years. Mine probably looks a little better than yours. I would hate to have to replace mine.

So you have a 14 year old truck that you rarely use. KBB says it"s worth 4 grand. You say to make it nice again would take another 4 grand. Then you end up with a truck worth 8 grand....to you, but worth 4 grand to anyone else. Sounds as if you answered your own question, but just need confirmation. Do the truck a favor, let her go to a new home. Just don"t get unrealistic when setting a price, be negotiable. KBB as well as NADA is a good place to get a taste of what a vehicle is worth, but face it....they will only bring what someone is willing to give for them. What is the market out there for 14 year old faithful trucks? Probably not too much. Pat it on the back bumper as it drives out the front gate, and be sure and thank it for being so faithful all these years as you wave goodbye.

A new lease or a short hard run. Either way you will probably regret it from the way you wrote. I think you want to be talked out of it. Keep the truck unless the money is putting food in front of the kids .
