First off, thanks to all of you that responded to my post several months ago, it helped a bunch. It'tl most likly a 1996-1998 Toyota Tacoma.

A guy that my dad works with says that he is planning on selling his soon, and I think I can afford it. Little over 100 grand on the odometer, but it's all long trips. Regular cab, short bed(oh well) four wheel drive, 5 speed and a 4 cylinder(spelling?).

All I need it for is dragging a trailer with zero-turn and push mower fer mowing and farm work, driving to school, and "some" as a toy.

Once again, thanks to everyone.

I don't think you can beat that combination unless you want to haul tractors around. If you make sure the front boots don't get punctured you can expect the 4WD system to work well for the life of the truck.

My '95 4Runner has the earlier 4 cylinder, 5 speed 4WD combination and after 325,000 km it still runs very well. It is without doubt the best vehicle I have ever owned. It's still on its second muffler and I first changed the rotors and calipers at about 285K. It did need a gas tank last year, though.

Good luck with the truck.

Friend over in ND has one he runs every day, laid up for a week or so once from a deer collision. Is just over the 300 thousand now and says he will retire it at 4, or maybe not if it still runs good. Good engine, like the man said, watch body/frame depending where you live.

JDG, THe only thing I would tell you to keep an eye on is frame rust out.If you find any fix it when it is small.( My 89 has a three foot long hole in the right rail)
