I have the neighbors ih456 planter here to plant sweet corn. The augers are froze up. I beleive it must be in the ends. I broke all the old hard fert I could reach with a scwer driver. Sprayed the two out side ends with penetrant. It wont even turn with a pipe wrench on the little square shaft on the outside. Any ideas what I can do? Need to get the sweet corn in before it rains tommorow!!!! Thanks in advance

Well, after 5 hours of tapping, hitting, twisting, swearing, spraying, cursing, and 12 Hamms, i got them augers turning sooooo smooth. I am guessing they are supposed to be pulled out when being put away, and greased up in the spring when they are put back in. Oh well, while letting it soak working on them beers I was able to fis 14 other things that have been wired or bent to work. This is the 2nd year I used it and last year I had to fix the marker arm to work right- you had to raise and lower it 2-3 times to get the correct arm to come down. He is a good neighbor so I dont mind at all.

If push comes to shove; unhook the fertilizer driveshaft. You can always side-dress later - maybe even with that planter before seeds sprout (but not in the same track - learnt that lesson...)

Likely not much before tomorrow. I had the same issue with my Oliver 540. Couldn't adjust them at all. Pulled both sides. Tapped on them with a hammer to get off as much as I could. Droped them in some diesel for about a week. In the end I got one end, of one side, to free up. :^( So I set it back to match the others and changed sprokets to get it as close as I could to the rate I wanted.

Good Luck.
