O.K, I have the headers on.. gave up trying to fix the cold starting problem(just the nature I guess).. so next on the list is a better air filter. the stock filter works, but I would like to have better.. so I was thinkin about either a hood scoop or a K&N air filter. what one would you go for? I think a scoop on this ol' gal would look pretty sharp(remember I am only 17!)..
I could make the scoop and rig it up to go into the stock filter, so it would be a ram-air. I have figgerd out how I would do it.. have the plans to make it.. just was waiting on a clear day. but what do you guys think?

Its possible the cold start problem is because of an automatic choke problem. I have a manual choke kit for my 72 with 360 engine but haven't put it on yet. Problem with it is that the choke does not go off soon enough in cold weather.

Check to make sure your exhaust manifold heat riser tube isn't rotted off or missing, that's what warms up the choke and turns it off..... .. seen lots of them missing and people wonder why the choke doesn't work right..... Brian

Stack two stock filters one on top of the other. don't worry about the gap in the stock housing, just get a longer bolt. That will give you good protection and plenty of air flow. For a scoop find one of the old Ranchero(sp) low profile non functioning scoops. I took a quick look but couldn't find a pic of my old 68 f-100. Looks sharp with that wide low profile scoop.

The K&N air filters are O.K. I guess but they won't stop the microscopic dust particles nearly as well as the stock pleated paper filter. Hood scoops do look cool, but they will let a bunch of water in if you ever drive in the rain. Have you given any thought to fabricating some sort of ram-air system where you pick up the air either from the cowl or from under the front bumper? I am 55, I remember some of those tricks from the 60's and 70's.
