I have a serious problem with moles in my backyard. Is there any good way to get rid of them other than traps? Thanks. Mike.

I agree with the dogs. We have a Blue Heeler maybe mixed ? and it will dig up and kill any that come into it's invisible fence area.Same with cats and raccoons and most anything else.

I have been in the landscape maintenance business for over 24 years and have fought these little pests all that time. Best solution I have found is a cup full of gasoline put down in several of the runs opened up with a rod. Just a cupful now I said in several or as many holes as you wish. Light it with a match and it will burn for up to 2 minutes depositing the carbon monoxide which is heavier than air down into the tunnels and sift into all the hidden places and hang there till the moles come thru for their twice daily run and jap, thats all folks. it really does work. Many have doubted but thouight it just crazy enough to try. Also short pieces of blackberry cane carefully placed in the runs using gloves to escape the human scent is quite effective since the moles scratch themselves on the thorns and bleed to death. They are hemopliliacs (sp). Hope this helps

Castor oil. They hate the smell, will move to your neighbor's lawn. Do a Google search for "Ed Hume mole formula".

Put sevin dust on your yard to kill the grubs. This will eliminate the moles food source.

Get rid of the grub worms (cut worms) in your yard soil and the moles will go else where...

Don't know if it is legal in your state or not, but old fashioned moth balls stuck into their tunnels works every time. I just stick a hole every few feet and drop one or two in.

I have had great success with a small windmill that we found advertized in a garden magazine. I was VERY skeptical of it when I saw it but WOW it really drives the moles away and keeps them away. It has a small BB inside that the windmill causes to vibrate and the moles HATE it!

I've flushed many out by sticking a water hose in a busy track and waiting a few minutes. They'll come out of the ground and the rest is history for the mole. To rid them entirely do as the post before said and spray an insectide to kill what they are feeding on.

My mole problem disappeared with my 3 cats. The little female was a real killer, she'd kill two or three per night.

I'll vote for the Jack's too. Only problem is our Male will dig up the entire tunnel till he gets 'em. You will also get rid of your mice, rats, oppossum, chickens, groundhogs, coons, and pretty much anything else that will give a chase.

Hey cant even, we had that problem with the chickens and eggs, we had free roamers. I broke them off the eggs by putting hot hot sauce in an egg and putting it the dogs mouth and breaking it and holding the mouth shut, she never ate another egg.
Also on the chickens, i beat the chicken killer with the dead chicken, now she runs from them.
Their smart dogs and learn from their mistakes if you show them

I'm going to second the Jack Russel Terrier, they do a great job on the moles. Our niece has one and every time she's over she gets 2-3 of them with ease.

The only way that I know of that is effective is to use a heavy insecticide which will kill the grubs and other bugs that the moles are eating. If you kill the food supply the moles will move on.

I read a article last year that said moles live on earthworms. Don't know how you would get rid of them.
