My pickup has spots on the inside, which look as if the last time someone washed it it spotted the glass, and it was left to dry. None of the glass cleaners touch it.. Anyone know any tricks to get these hard water spots off the INSIDE of the windshield? It is a devil to see thru in the morning sun!

Muriatic acid is what is used to remove hard water spots from glass. It removes lime, rust and other chemicals that spot glass.

Lime-A-Way,CLR all have muriatic acid in them.HTH

NO TINT, Vinegar didn't do it.. in reply to Truck, 04-23-2006 18:25:49
Tried white vinegar straight out of the bottle. I may try the razor blade thing, but I am leery of causing scratching..

No aftermarket tint on the windows. It is a 89 import pickup truck. Only thing I can afford the gas for anymore.

Wasn't Bon Ami used for windows at one time ?

You also might try tooth paste. Years ago I had a watch that had the face all scrathed up and I was able to use tooth paste to get it where I could see the hands again. It it an accident and hit the pavement when I went down rideing a motorcycle but it did save my arm from getting tore up

When I run into a nasty window like that, I soak the window real good and slide a single edged rasor blade across the glass at a real shallow angle. You can actually feel the blade sliding easier as the glass gets cleaner. Then clean properly with window cleaner. It works well for me. It would not be a good idea if the glass has a aftermarket tint on it. Gene

If they are not tinted a fine steel wool works pretty good - you might try a small corner first though. The "plastic coating" for safety glass will not handle steel wool but if it's glass-glass it won't be an issue.

I've cleaned paint off glass in that manner several times.

first--- were these tinted windows??

second--- have they been cleaned with amonia based cleaners?

our combine windows did that --- was the cleaner reacting to the cheap grade of tinting CIH used..... some cars have that happen as well.

Along with the vinegar I've also had good luck using newspaper instead of a paper towel or cloth rag for the initial scrubbing. The paper has more courseness than a typical paper towel or clothrag so it cleans alot better without the potential to damage the glass you'd have with a scouring pad, etc. After the initial cleaning with the vinegar and newspaper go back and try the regular glass cleaner and paper towel for a finish clean. As an extra note, I've always had good luck with ZEP's glass cleaner. I drive a Freightliner with a large flat windshield which tends to splatter more than it's fair share of bugs. I can usually clean it using the ZEP by just spraying it on and wiping it off, with maybe a minimal amount of scraping reserved only for the "gutsiest" of critters.
