I just had a 16,000 pound white 4-150 hauled from Iowa to Michigan last year and it cost me $1450 to my dealers doorstep. It was 588 miles, so I got charged $2.46 a loaded mile.

Well i was on the phone today with and old dispatcher and we were talken about me comming back out on the road as i use to get GOOD freight from her and now this is a BIG IF i can find the wright tractor i will be getting a step deck for the time being as i sure as heck can not afford what i want but any way she was telling me that the rate for sept decks is getting close to 3 bucks a mile plus fuel surcharge and for the RGN freight it is pushen the 5 dollar a mile plus F/S and plus permits. If prices keep going up NOBODY WILL BE SHIPPEN NOTHING it is getting way out of hand. Now stop and think about this BOYS WE ARE IN TROUBLE .

tractor vet you got that right. can't wait for the day all trucks stop trucking our fuel went to 296.9 today. i look at it this way i don't care what gas cost because we wast way to mutch but diesel runs the country so let the city people buy all them big SUV and 4 door 4x4 pickups that they don't need and why would any one in FLORIDA need a 4x4 when was the last time MIAMI had a blizzard?

That depends on how far you need to go and how much is your gross weight.

Short loads pay best per mile and may be best self hauled. For long stuff you can most likely get it hauled by a full time hauler cheaper than you can do it yourself.

Going rate for long stuff should be about $1.50 to $1.75 per loaded mile plus a fuel sur charge. To figure the sur charge add the cost of fuel per mile over 1.00 per gallon.
So if you get 10 miles to the gallon add .20 per mile for 3.00 per gallon.

No less than $2.00 per loaded mile, and that would be just for the prices as they are today. Tomorrow you might want to charge $2.10.
