Sorry about that everyone. I was reading somewhere that in order to have down pressure on a loader you need a 2 stage hydraulic. I'm pretty sure that's what it said. Paul

If you are running the loader from the tractors hydraulics, it is not likely 2 stage. If you have a pto pump to power the loader, it is still not likely, bt it is possible that you have a 2 stage pump. The 2 stage pump is commonly refered to as a "log slitter" pump. Here is a link to a place that sells 2 stage pumps. It has a picture and a brief description of a 2 stage pump.

If your talking double acting then it will have 2 hoses. If you talking about a true 2 stage cylinder then it would have one stage that comes out then when it has reached its limit of travel and 2nd stage comes out. Most large dump trucks use a muti stage cylinder, some up to 4 stages

Do you mean double acting versus single acting cylinders

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Do you not need a double acting to get donw pressure? Paul

Yes, you need double acting cyl. for down pressure. My loader is single acting on the arms that lift, but double on the bucket. You can get some down pressure by tilting bucket if it has double acting cyl.
Hope this helps you
John
