I am putting new tires on my MM 335. The rims are rusted on the inside. I am thinking about useing bed liner to coat the rims and fill the pits that are left after sanding most of the rust off. Will this work or will I be heading for trouble? Please let me know your thoughts on this.

I had a super rusty 2n rim.. I wire wheeled it down, primed with a rust stop primer.. then painted 2-3 coats of epoxy gloss paint. Have not have a problem in a couple years with tubes getting torn up.

The tire repair people have a wide aluim. tape that can be wound around the rim.

Thanks for the prompt and good answers. I will use the rust stopper and then paint. Will use a liner too.

Had a flat on the right rear of my Ford 3000 right after I bought it. After the tire was removed we discovered the reason for the flat wass rust from the rim tearing holes in the tube.

Bought a new tube, cleaned up the inside of the rim with a wire brush in an angle grinder and ground off some of the real rough spots with another angle grinder.

Sprayed the rim with some rust stop I bought at the local auto parts store and after it cured put a good coat of Rustolium over the rust stop. Rim still had pits but everything was smooth. Haven"t had any more problems..

If your desire is to stop the rust, you might use POR-15. It will absolutely stop the rust in it's tracks.

I assume you mean the spray on type bed liner? My thoughts are that in time, the bed liner spray will adhere itself to the tube. If it were me, I would just sand and paint the rims and get a rubber rim liner. It'll save you a lot of time and it'll protect your tube from chafing itself on any rough places on the rim. Just what I would do, if it were me.
