Does anyone have thoughts as to why fingers would keep falling off the clutch cover. JD dealer has worked on all repairs -- 3 in about 2 1/2 years --
after initially installing the clutch.

Are you saying the operating fingers are falling off? There are pins that holds them in place and cotter keys that keeps the pins on place. Are the cotter keys getting out of the pins? If the operating finger tips are wearing off then somebody is riding the clutch or the free travel it too tight.Check the free travel at 2200 RPM. Weak clutch springs will do this. The Deere shop manual tells how to test the springs.
