I have seen ads that say, for sale, 560 with 806 rear or 460 with 806 rear and not being the brightest bulb when it comes to red ones I'm lost. I understand why they would put ( for example ) a 301 cu. in. in a 460 or 560 but why the 806 rear. What would they gain ? I would think that would make it heavier in weight and have faster gears, correct ? Just one of those things that make me scratch my head and say, why are they doing that.

The 806 rearend gear ratio is higher than most others. In other words it goes faster. It is favored in the tractor pulling world because of this and they are really tough rear ends.

I can think of a couple of reasons:
Hi and Low transmission ranges plus TA equals 16 forward and 8 reverse gears.
Dual speed PTO means they could run 1000 pto implements that didn't require a lot of power.
Given the price of fuel... a fuel economy swap?

Just my thoughts...
