Anybody remember those old tractors that went backwards? Like the Honey Bee conversion on the Farmall B or 140, or the AC/Drott Tractomatic? I still see some around, built with a forklift on the front (around loading docks in unpaved areas, usually.)

Now, I've been trying to find information online about such critters lately. I don't know what they're supposed to be called, and that doesn't help with the search engines.

Liftmaster made them on Massy Ferguson tractors. Have one on a MF30. 3 cyl Perkins. Haven`t got it all back together yet.

I have one done on an AC D 15. It was used at a sawmill. It has a very powerful hydraulic system and with teh shuttle clutch is easy to use. I tried to get info on it, but found out nothing until I saw you guys talking here.
I used to used to use it for round bales, but it gets little use anymore. It will need a ring job soon, but if anyone is interested please conatct me.

Fellow, dealer??, over by Longmont used to buy all the Ford Majors he could get. Would reverse them and put on an "overshot" loader. They were used in Colorado's silage pits. Didn't have to turn around to dump in to feeder truck.

Been trying to find one of those myself for some time now. Used to have one at a sawmill I worked at years ago. I've done all kinds of searches (rough terrain forklift, forklift, backwards tractor, tractor lift, reversed tractor forklift, forklift by name brand, and so on) but haven't been able to come up with anything so far. I want one to be able to stack round bales higher in my 20 foot center barn. I could almost double my storage capacity with one of those. If you have any luck, let me know how you found one.

Dan: It was a vert simple conversion, internally the only change involved putting crown gear in so it was on opposite side of pinion. I know in an IH it was just a matter dropping rear end carrier for crown, pinion and differential, in bottom side up.

From there the platform and controls are a far greater problem to convert.

Thanks! That was a significant part of what I wanted to look up. I'm rebuilding a Cockshutt 30 with the intent to put the loader over the rear-end. Family's trying to convince me not to tear apart the rear-end... But if I can get the platform, pedals, and steering figured out, I just might be tempted to do it anyway.

My uncle had a Farmall MV Hi-crop with a Broussard sugar cane loader and it was backwards. My ex-father-in-law had an D19 AC with a J&L cane loader backwards. Both tractors were fun to operate. The D19 had the gears turned so it would use the forward gears to go backwards but the MV did not. You had to use reverse to go forwards. To get from one field to the next you had to turn and look over your shoulder to drive it or just go really slow...

I remember. Case & Massey-Ferguson made them also. Highlift or forklift we called 'em.

How about "rough terrain forklift"?
