I would say that it is worth 1500 -2500 salvage as the days of a dead row tractor for under a grand have been gone for a good while as i have had to pay over a grand for a gambel at the major sales that i use to attend and sometimes ya get the elevator and sometimes ya get the shaft. If i was still in the busiess of buying tractors i would not be affrid of going 1500 on it as if it was a gasser they are not expencive to rebuild even if ya had to do the T/A and even a paint job as with the prices of a good sound 656 is over 4500 and up . Even if it was a keeper you would know just what ya had and not payen high prices for who knows what only to find out that 6 mounths later that the T/A went out on ya or the engine was on it's last legs and have to rebuild it after .

Well.... need more imput. a $500 tractor isnt had much anymore. Is it a hydro or gear drive? Is it a Gas or a diesel? Wide front or narrow? SHeet metal good or bad? Fenders? 3 pt or fast hitch? The motor locked up isnt always bad. We have a 68 656 Hydro and we rebuilt it for around 1000 ourselves. Nice tractor now wouldnt trade it for a new one. Give me somemore info on conditions above and ill give ya a good price. Dad and i deal alot in 656 parts and tractors. Thanks Brad

Scrap value. Locked engine can be big $$.

$250 if the tires are poor, $500 if it has good tires. At least that's all I'd ever give for a locked up tractor anymore. Once you get the engine running you find out the TA is bad, bearings are out in the rear end, and the PTO unit is shot.
