They are excellent tractors. I as well as quite a few others around here have 10000+ hours of reliable service. The lever to the left of the steering wheel is the PTO clutch. (the one you will catch your coat on gettting off the tractor) The lever to the left of the seat is the speed selector. Foreward is 540 center is neutral and back is 1000. For maximum clutch life whenever possible have the clutch engaged. (clutch lever foreward) If the fender lights are square and the tractor has 4 way falshers then it is 74+, if the fender lights are rectangular then it is a 73- model

Acording to the link the tractor have a two speed PTO or live PTO but doesn't say anything about ground PTO.
Good Luck

emartin, I am not fimilar with Deutz tractors, but my MF 165 dsl has the same 3 positions for the PTO. The back position is to engage the PTO, Middle is Off and forward is ground speed (which means the PTO shaft turns inrelation to the rear wheels turning). To check and see engage forward and pull off check the PTO turning in relation to your speed. Hope this helps.
