My grandson come over to have me help him with his new ,to him, 97 Cavalier. Show him how to change oil and so forth. The owners manual shows a dip stick with a loop for your finger to pull it out with. His just has a threaded plastic plug on the left side marked "trans fill". My friends girl has one the same way. No stick on the plug cause the hole is shallow in the fill area . Any body run into this problem This is tractor related, right?

Wow, I can"t believe it. I stumbled upon YTMAG.com by accident when I bought my first 2510. I have since recently sold it but still come here because maybe I can learn something from guys on this site.

Yes, it is an internet forum and you will get all kinds but if your not in a good mood, can"t help someone out, DON"T post.

Congrats D. Greenwald on helping your grandson out!!! I hardly remember my grandparents and I am sure your grandson will always remember what you did for him and the good times that you share. Rusty

Just funny this retraction only arrived AFTER someone pointed out your double standards. You, sir, should have retracted/apologised earlier. I, for one, find it difficult to consider your post as anything other than an excuse for your previous post, not a real reason.
If that was the case, I think you would, by now, have protected your handle with a password.

Wow! Thanks for the support to IaGary& souNd Guy. I'm 70 years and just trying to help the boy. We loaned him some money for this car and in 6 days he was here with a payment. 10 days with the second payment. We were amazed. He did'nt get that from his father or from the mother who abandon him. By the way we still have picture of he and his brother on the J.DEERE 'B. D.W. Greenwald.

D. Will: It's great that your grandson is feeling obligated to take care of this loan as quickly as possible. It's an admirable quality. However, his diligence is doing nothing toward building him a credit history, which he will need all his life. As a 20+ year veteran of loaning money at small credit unions, I heartily recommend letting him continue this way for a while, until you are absolutely positive that his good payment habits are not just a fluke. Then take him to a bank or credit union and co-sign for him on a real loan so that he can start building a positive credit history. Otherwise, the next time he needs money to buy another vehicle or (horrors!) a wedding ring, he'll be in the same boat: no credit history, need a co-signer.

If you can get him a credit history now on a relative low risk loan secured by a car you can take away from him if he doesn't pay, you may not have to worry about ever having to co-sign for him again in the future. Yes, it will cost him some interest, but nothing of value is free.

Just some advice from my point of view. Your mileage may vary. Some settling may occur in transit.

Will,
Yup-definitely tractor related(as long as your grandson has a interest in tractors). That car does not have a dip-stick to fill/check trans fluid. As dumb as it sounds,GM recommends that the trans not be serviced under normal driving conditions or not have fluid added unless a fluid leak is aparent.DREAMERS!To check the fluid, the car needs to be level and running at operating temp. You need to remove a pipe plug at RH axle extension housing with an 11mm wrench & fluid should trickle out.~brad

Do have cramps or something today? Why should this forum include big trucks and not cars? Big trucks are just as much off-topic as cars are. We are a community of gearheads here, and most of us are all too happy to help someone with their problems, be it tractors or trucks or cars or life in general. There's been a lot of OT over the years, and I find that the OT stuff adds a little more flavor to the forum.

Go find a boy's forum somewhere if you aren't man enough to answer a question without complaining.

If this forum is for big trucks why wouldn't it be for cars also.
So if you can talk big trucks I have no problem with others talking cars.
This forum gets off subject once in a while and I have no problem with that.
Most guys come to this forum because they have the same main interest and that is tractors and they trust the opinions on other subjects as well.
