Just read my email from the Atkinson clan down at Springfield. Their only loss was one chicken that didn't make back to the coop in time. Sounds as if it was a scary time for everyone down there.

Located in Winfield MO... bout an hour and a half northwest of St. Louis.

Saturday night, the hail went 30 miles north of us (3"+ size) and the tornado's went 60 miles south of us.

Sunday night the tornado(s) were headed straight for us and went north. Missed us by 15 miles.

Lucky

Hi Old,

I'm just north of Moberly. One (or two..still debated) tornados started at about Higbee and ran a bee line for Monroe City. Lots and lots of complete damage, four confirmed deaths in Randolph County, hit Monroe City dead-on and tore up downtown pretty badly.

Talked to my father in law this morning. He lives between Monroe City and Mark Twain lake. Said that he saw the tornado that hit Monroe City last night. Guess some folks in a church got hurt.

Pretty nasty night in the midwest! University of Kansas in Lawrence shut down today because 60% of the buildings had storm damage. They say it was not a tornado, but straight line 90mph winds.

here in east central MO (Gerald) I lost a storm door and tops out of two trees. Weird how that wind got behind the door and ripped it open. Had broken glass everywhere. Still had to get to work at 6 am so didn't get to look over everthing yet. Did check the cattle and were looking for thier grain so things not all bad.

I got pretty lucky at my house, not even a limb down in the yard. about a mile west of me they got baseball sized hail, a friend called me this morning who lives at Strafford MO and said the twister went over his house about 200 feet overhead.
Our parts managers sister had her house destroyed at Billings MO (20 miles southwest of Springfield), There was a 64 year old man killed at Marionville, Wilson Creek National Battlefield area had several houses destroyed and a lot of damage, 50 to 60 houses completly destroyed at a nice subdivision in Nixa, MO. (15 miles south) Marshfied, MO area (25 miles East) also sustained a lot of damage, A horse farm that was destroyed a couple of years ago got it again last night with a lot of injury to the animals. Here at Trux's we had a 9,500 gallon gas tanker blown about 20 feet side ways, it stayed upright though.
I thought my Border Collie was going to have a nervious breakdown last night!
Walter

Yer Missouri storms made it up to Springfield, IL and really did a lot of damage here. Luckily no one was killed or injured bad, but a lot of damage and 3/4 of the town is without electricity and may not have for 3-4 days. I am on this thing running on a genset.

Hey, Leland, thanks for asking. We got a bunch of rain, building is gooooo d, just no electricity, so I am on the computor, powered by a generator, with a 100.00 surge protector in line. right now, trying to get generators in, people have been calling all day bout them, just have to wait and see what comes in. You find a tiller yet? Lyle Hunsley was in last week and he does not have one, he said he though Cosby had one in Elkhart, but he might think it is gold plated. Again, thanks for asking, at home all we had was rain, lightning, thunder and wind, no damage at all. Maybe all this rain will make for better grass growing than last year. :>)

Absolutely went on three sides of us Old, but had to stay up till 2:30 this morning watching them on the tube. Two or three came down in Springfield and in Marionville, ElDorado Springs, Aurora and West Plains. Got more rain, but dodged this bullet by 5 miles twice. They had 4 major fronts went through last night from Joplin east and they all missed us. Hope everybody else was alright. Harley

We were real lucky, didn't even rain but about three drops at our place. Stormed like hell on saturday night though. Tornado damage was only about 70 miles from our place, we live between Hermann and New Haven. My mother lives outside Silex which is north of Troy and seven homes were destroyed a couple miles from her.
