I'm sorry that this isn't quit tractor related, but I figured that maybe someone could help me. We have a 1976 Ford F-700 for a feedtruck at our ranch. Recently, our starter really went downhill. We have always had some trouble with it and it's past rebuilding, so, we are getting a new one. However, we need to find the motor size since the the starter number is unreadable. We really can't find it anywhere on it. I do know that is is a larger V-8, and I am fairly sure it's a factory motor. Do any of you guys have one of these trucks? The intake number is B(or 8)5TE-8425-TA. If this helps at all. The block number looks like a mirror reflection of 501(10). ANY HELP IS SO MUCH GREATLY APPRICIATED!!!!!

Pull the upper radiator hose then pull the thermostat cover (this will require a new gasket), but if it has 2 thermostats side by side under there, it's a 370...chances are good that it is, but I think if you check that all of those mentioned as possibilities use the same starter. Most Fords in those days used the same one. We got stranded with our '79 F 600 once at a pull on a Sun. of course the only stores that would list an F 600 (NAPA, Carquest...) were closed, so I took a chance at the local Advance auto and bought a starter for an '80s F 350 with the 460 which they did list...it was the same one. Pete

It is more than likely a 361 or 389. I think the same starter fits both. Could be a 330, but not likely. Would still use the same starter.
