I saw something today that got under my hide in a big way. What if you were in a big store, and an antique JohnDeere tractor, or any old tractor was in there with a target painted on it. Plus the business offered to let you take pot shots at it. Well, at the new BassProShop, in CouncilBluffs Iowa, there is a electronic shooting gallery, put in money, get X number of shots with a toy rifle. There are stuffed animals around a simulated farm yard, with electronic targets on them. In the middle of this is a mockup of a JD tractor. I had to get closer to realize it wasn"t a Model H from the 40s. Besides the animals, some of which are sitting on this tractor, there are also targets on the lights and the radiator. Plus more targets on the simulated farm buildings. I got to thinking that do we need to encourage folks to shoot up old farmsteads and machinery? I don"t believe its sportsmanlike to shoot up other peoples property. I wonder if several dozen emails to BassProShops would make them rethink this. Like I said, it got me riled up. John in Nebraska

Pretty funny considering our local high school spent 5 hours in 'lock down' Tuesday while the local Rosco P's spent the time searching the building brandishing riot guns and sniper rifles. This was all because some smart a$$ left a 'generic' threat on the bathroom wall. Even funnier yet my wife took a call from my daughter and her cell phone who was locked down in the girl's locker room. Irony of this was wife was watching reruns of the Walker Texas Ranger garbage on TV at the time. I can't imagine where a kid would get an idea to make a threat like this.

and what about the video games where you shoot at people ? Or giving your kids toy guns and alowing then them to point and shoot at eachother? And the worst part is that so many thing nothing wrong with it. Talk to every kid you come in contact with. Lead them in the right way to see that the world is full of evil and they need to make right choices. We can't change the world but we can make a difference in the life of a few.

Printing in bold or italics require use of html tags. You can also underline parts of your text...or you can do all three. It's really pretty easy. I would recommend doing a google search for html. There are several sites with basic html instructions for beginners like me (and you).

In short, it seems that you don't want to tell me how to do it, is that a fair assessment of your response? Anyways, I would say that you have graduated from the "beginner" category anyways. I guess I'll just stay with what I got (unless somebody wants to tell me). What the heck are html things anyways?

Here's another site that list html tags. Most of them I don't understand, but they're fun to experiment with. The Case Western Reserve University site has a html lab where you can experiment with tags to see what they do.

I like using the font commands when I do an ebay auction. I find a little color and change of font size helps readability.

If I type in some examples of the html tags I'm talking about, the computer will just show the result, not the magic code that created it. There is a way to do a 'screen shot' and post it as a picture, but I don't know how to do that.

Also, there's a reason school teachers assign research projects to their students. They have found that concepts are better learned when the student has to do the research rather than being spoon-fed the information.

However, since you seem not to want to do the work to learn, I'll get out my spoon.

An html tag consists of a left arrow <, a command, and finally a right arrow >. Whatever is in the command dictates what happens to the following text. The comand will generally be in effect until another html tag turning it off is entered.

Example: the command for bold text is the letter b. So, if you type in a left arrow <, then a b and follow that with a right arrow >, whatever you type after that tag will be in bold type. After you have typed in the last word that you want in bold, you need to turn the command off. You do that by typing in a left arrow <, a slash /, the letter b, and finally a right arrow >. Other simple html commands are:

u = underline
i = italics

Just remember to surround the command letter with the arrows. Also remember to put a slash in front of the letter, but inside the arrows to turn off the command.

Here's a link to one html tutorial. There are several others.

Last fall a farmer in Vermont was killed by some fool who took a potshot at his tractor. The idiot hadn't shot a deer, and he was just taking his frustration out on an easy target. He couldn't see into the cab and didn't know there was somebody in it.
