Is it safe to pull a 15000 lb JD 450C with a chevy diesel 3/4 ton pickup?

We haul 1800 pounds of Hay on a gooseneck trailer every summer for the past 15 years. It is a 91 Chevy 2500 gas and dosent have duel tires. It has a 350 in it. Of course thats not at highway speen we maby go 15 to 25 down gravel roads mostly. I dont know about the highway. I would think it would be fine though. (gooseneck only though and atleast electric trailer brakes.)

If on a gooseneck trailer rated for that weight capacity, I'd do it. Bumper pull, no.

I would not just pull it. Load it on a trailer, maybe, and then with a dually only.

I wouldn't. But then, I wouldn't use a Chevy "Diesel" to pull a lawn tractor. (just kidding :-)) But. seriously now, that's just asking for trouble, pulling that size load with a way too small truck. That truck wouldn't get out of its own way, assuming you didn't break something right off the bat just trying to get it to move at all, and if you ever did get it moving, you'd never be able to stop it. I'd use a full size truck-C65 Chevy or equivalent.

We are glad to see you are smart enough to ask instead of going ahead and trying it. Wish there were more cautious people like you.

Yes you can, but only if you have very good trailor brakes and you take it slow. Leave 3 times the space between you the the guy in front of you and never slam on the brakes. Better yet get a bigger truck and be safe.

There is no comparing an "old" F250 to a new F250, its closer to compare an older F250 to a new F150.

A reg cab 2X4 1991 F250 with a 7.3 only had 180 hp @ 3300, torque of 345 @ 1400 RPM, weighed in at 3708 lbs, and towing was only 8200 lbs. The 1990s diesel was a horse compared to the earlier F250s. Trying to compare this to a 1970s F250 with a 390 will only show how far things had progressed.

A reg cab 2X4 2004 F250 with a 6.0 has 325 hp @ 3300 RPM and torque of 560 @ 2000 RPM and weighs in at 5411 lbs and its tow capicity is 13,700 lbs.

Say what you want about the plastic, but in outright power, weight, and braking the newer trucks eat the older ones lunch.
