Any of you guys have this experience with Ferrellgas? I have a rental house that has a 500 gal. tank owned by Ferrellgas. It's been empty for about a year. I paid my 12.75 yearly tank rent in December. Today I get a bill from them for 100.00 for "low usage fee". There's nothing about that fee in my tank lease agreement. I have a notion to tell them where to stick their suppository shaped tank, but they'd probably jinx my credit rating for several years to come for failure to pay, the way my luck runs. It just burns me the way they try to stick it to their customers any way they can. Any thoughts? Jim.

I've been with them 17 years. My original contract had no tank fee. I guess because we kept full. Well ,got a letter braking the contract. This is in Gladwin Mi. area. It's a summer home and for sale so I did'nt want to fill it up, just a hundred gallons or so. They would'nt do it so I shut off everything except furnace pilot. Now pay $40 a year rental. What you going to do, sue and pay a lawer?

You can rest assured there is a federal or state regulatory agency that approved that charge. We were billed $2. charge on our monthly heating gas bills this winter because we are not using enough natural gas. Vote out every incombent theve sold us out.

rip off-my dad who is 76 and legally blind had a few run ins with them ( actually I did since I take care of his personal matters). The were to deliver 300 gallons that he prepaid for-the delivery many ran out with 50 gallons short-said they would bring it later. Never did, come fall dad tells me to tell them to bring 250 gallons and the 50 gallons they owe him-get the bill they charge us for the 50 gallons then try 3 card monte-arguing over ownership of tank, price of gas, etc. Finally some goober in an office says we will let you have the 250 gallons for wholesale price-which I later discover is actually retail for larger customers. Long story short when this gas is gone they will be one customer short.

I have never delt with a more customer unfriendly and questionable business practice company like Ferrel gas. They do not want you talking to the local delivery people but rather every call goes to some place where they do not understand cold weather and the need for fuel. They had my place on a delivery route for a truck that was hundreds of miles away rather than the one 2 miles away. They knew exactly where to send the bills though. They said they try to be above the local competion by 15 cents because they offer superior service. Changed companies and I am worry free to know the fuel is always at a safe level at a price lower than Ferrell. The last tank was 28 cents lower.

We own our own tank, have for many years. This year Ferrell sent me a bill for rental of the tank and a charge for low usage & if I didn't pay they would pick up my tank. I called & asked what this bill was for. Explained that tank had been bought years ago before they came along. manager stated that I was in error & they owned tank. I then suggested that they come & try to pick up tank. No further response & have different company filling tank now at lower price.

If you really want to get involved, ask them to prove it. Make them show you in writing all the fees related to the gas and the tank. And show you where you were notified of the fee and given a chance to opt-out. Also, depending on where you live, you may have recourse through a public services commission or business organization. Of course, the gas company is just trying to make money like any other business. They are being inventive. I had a neighbor whose gas company charged him for the cinder blocks the tank sat on to keep it off the ground.

anything with ferrell name on it you are screwed. just tell them to take the tank and their bill and stick it were the sun don't shine. there are other companys in this business that are honest.it would also be a good idea to contact the better business bureau (if there is one in your area) or your state attorney general. wiz

Sounds about par for the course with them. They tried that 'add on stuff' every year. Sent me new leases to sign, charged me rent I didnt owe, all that.

To make matters worse, I was having problems with my furnace. Furnace man said low gas pressure, Ferrelgas said nothing wrong. Finally we figure out that it was losing pressure over time. Called Ferrelgas back and they sent out a service guy again. This time he tells me 'dont know why people worry about a leak, all it is is a little gas'. Also found water contamination in my gas. Told thm to come get my tank, with that kind of cavalier attitude about safety I dont want the tank or them on my property. Got a Southern States tank and gas for $.20 a gallon cheaper and the option to buy all my gas in August at summer price.

Jim,

I don't have any experience with Ferrell, so I don't know about your particular situation. I use propane for heat, cooking, and water heating. I own my own tank, so I shop around for propane. The suppliers always are looking to give new customers special deals, so I end up switching dealers every couple of years and take advantage of their "new customer" deals. I even get the deals when I go back to a supplier that I had previously used.

In Middle Tennessee, you can buy tanks for about $100 - $200. You might check into buying a tank and telling Ferrell to take theirs away.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

I believe the reason is insurance related, my dad used to work for a propane company and in the last few years, the insurance company told them the following. If the tank is empty when the driver comes to fill it, they must do a leak test before leaving the place, and charge 25 dollars for it, think it's $50.00 for the second, they will do this 4 times and then just pick up the tank and you can go to another company, after the first one they recomend they go on keep fill, but have some that end up getting the tank pulled out, and if it's a customer owned tank they won't fill it anymore, there have been a couple of deals around here, with other companies, where everything had been there for years, and about the time the tank was about ready to be filled it was empty, the tank was filled, only to find out a few hours later that the home owner had been messing with the gas lines in the house and you can guess the rest, from what I read in the gas magazine a month ago it sounds like things might be getting worse when it comes to the lawyers and insurance companies finish with "their" new policy.

Kevin, I don't think they'd have to do a leak test, the tank still has a little in it, maybe 20-25 gallons. It still has pressure on it, and the pilot lights on the stove are still lit. Thanks to everybody. I think I'll just have them come get their tank. Jim.

Oh, I didn't realize that, I think I would tell them to come and get the tank and get another company, sounds a little goofy to me then.

Jim,
I never had to much problems with them in the past. This year a whole different story.
Had an experence couple months ago on the tank rental from them also. I was being charged tank rental sum of $42 and some odd cents in the past we never have to pay tank rental. I call them and they said we don"t know why you was charged for tank rental. She said you use over 500 gal. A year. I sometimes wonder if I can trust them? Jim if you want e-mail me.

We had a 500 gal tank used for tractor fuel, owned by the supplier, which was I believe was Ferrellgas, they bought out the original supplier which Dad started out with in the 40's. We paid nothing per year. So in the mail, comes a rather large payment due bill. I contacted them to find out what is going on. They said the bill is for not enough usage. Ok I told to come and get the tank, Which they did. It took a long time to convince them I wasen't going to pay them anything. With the price of propane being close to gas I stopped using the propane tractors. Also the Ensin fuel system's are getting a little old, and parts are getting hard to find. Stan
