This news from this mornings paper. Thought some of you living in the "bannana belt" may enjoy this.
Cultrural divide
Conservation Officer ** ** reported an angler told the officer a semi-truck and trailer drove off the highway and onto the ice and asked the angler for directions to a business. TDhe driver asked why all these "shacks" were in this field. The angler told the driver it was a lake and he was parked on the ice. The driver quickly left. The angler believed the driver was from the south and had never seen a frozen lake or fish house before.
Have a great day, we should get above 30 F today. Will be awhile before soft water or ground.

The company I work for is based in TX, but we do work all over. Many years ago two of our service guys were in Marquette MI. They saw some guys fishing out on the ice and decided to walk out and see if they were catching anything. As they go closer they notice some of them had small boats. When they asked about it, the guys said in late season fishing you never knew when the ice might break so they have a boat to get back. Our guys literally ran back to the shore.
True story or tall tale, I don't know.

I talked to a guy at Home Depot yesterday here in central Texas. He said a guy from Southern California asked one day why the sky was such a strange blue color. Evidently never saw a clear sky before.

Kudzu was introduced to the Southern US, during the 30's or 40's to help stop erosion.. The red clay soil was washing away, so the govt set up a program to plant it. It will engulf a huge field in a few years, & even hide houses & barns... It is almost impossible to kill. Pasturing cows on it will usually kill it in a few years...

Thanks. It apparently fills the same role as quack grass up north. Quack grass was introduced by the US Dept of Agriculture as "a hardy grass". They strongly recommended it for erodable areas. It spreads both by seed and root rhizomes. Almost impossible to kill or stop from spreading. We do it now with roundup but until a few years ago that wasn't available.

Kudzu is a vine, that grows INCREDIBLY fast. It overtops entire wooded areas, and kills the trees by blocking out the sunlight. Stuff grows something like 3 to 6 feet per DAY! Nasty invasive plant. I think it"s mostly in the south.

Shows to go that even an old f--t can learn something new. I spent time in the south from Texas to Florida and probably crawled around in it in SE Asia while in the military, but never discoverd Kudzu.(by name) It appenrently has some good uses but also seems to be one more of the guvments attempts at do good that brought another invasive plant in.
