My wife has been smitten by IH fever. I ran across an antique International Harvester Metro Van that had been sitting stored in the desert and she had to have it. Now I have the painful task of traveling half-way across the country through New Mexico and Arizona in the springtime to bring it home. The painful part is there will be no room on the trailer for a tractor. I sat back and watched a 1968 Allis Chalmers 170 high crop with perfect sheet metal sell for less than $1200 because I had no room left and would not be able to make another trip before June. It would have been nice to have His&Her's projects. The look I received when she thought I would pick the tractor and dropkick her van would have reversed global warming. I guess Mama needs a new toy now and then. It will look right at home sitting next to the pair of letter series Farmalls at the house.

Is this IH fever contagious? My wife wants a suburban type rig, and I've offered to buy a nice Travelall or Travelette for her. She will have nothing of it, wants some new-fangled contraption instead... lol

Sounds cool. Good to encourage the wife with the collector habit, you might lose out in the short run, but if she is on the same wavelength you are with collecting any vintage vehicles, that will pay off when you find another must-have and can use her collecting habits as a bargaining chip. What's fair for the goose is good for the gander. Now you'll need a ramp truck so you can haul both the His n' Hers collector items when you go on those trips.
IH Metro-Mite vans are cool, we had one in my fire department when I was younger. It was a 1964, had four cylinders, we used it as an equipment truck. It was tiny, but you could stand up in it and it would go pretty good for a four cylinder.

She suggested that I sell my 2004 Ram 1500 and buy a new Ram 2500 for the trip. I sadly declined and told her while I would like to lose my stomach I did not wish to lose my Arse. I am rather fond of my 1500 and don't have that powerful longing for a new one yet. I have a low mileage W250 Heavy Duty that I use for my heavy towing within 500 miles from home, but its ride is a little firm for a 4000 mile vacation trip. A buddy was telling me there was some kind of service that has these large aluminum vehicles that go from major city to major city without roads. I soon found out that you could not bring back tractors or trucks and ceased to investigate that travel concept. Gas is high, but the trophys you find along the road are priceless.

IH Metro Van? what size engine? Can it tow a trailer that can haul a tractor? If the drivetrain is strong enought to pull 6000 lb trailer after van is converted to light camper, you have just gotten the perfect vehicle to go tractor hunting, at least for light tractors. Wife can drive 'her' van while you nap going to auctions. Keep track of expenses in fixing van- this is your upper limit to bid, she would have a difficult time criticezing a bid -" that's less than I spent fixing your van". Enjoy. RN.

I had already considered those angles. I do not know the displacement yet, but it is on a IH 3/4 ton chasis with a 4 speed manual (I hope its a creeper) and has zero body rot. It was a Air Force van when new and looks to have had very limited miles of usage. It is complete with no parts removed altough some kids caught a few of the windows(flat glass) with rocks. The molding, grill and big IH on the nose are perfect. It currently has 8.00 x 17.5 tires which I will replace with 235-75-16 or 7.50 x 16 tires on modern rims. This should gear her down a little due to the the drop in tire diameter. The paperwork says it is a 1965, but the body style had limited changes all the way back to 1938. Models after the mid 40s had rectangular front turn signals, the 1960's models had round front turn signals. I was going to attach a photo, but did not find that option.

Yea, sometimes in life you have to make some sacrifices. Make sure you go on at great length how difficult the project is, but you"re doing it for her.
