RNDallis asked what sort of standards or guidelines sellers use to describe condition of a tractor on another thread. No one answered him. C'mon guys! We can help him out! I've thought of a few and stole a few I've heard from others.

Always shedded - drug it out of the pasture after sitting there 15 years and put it in a shed - or - in a lean with no sides or roof.

Smokes a little - looks like it's in a biker bar, can sometimes see it through the haze.

8 out of 10 - This is a value term, for every ten dollars I'm asking, put 8 back in your pocket and it might be worth what you give me.

Thumbs up - if you stand far enough away that you can hide the tractor behind your thumb at arms length, it looks good.

ran when parked - it ran all the oil into the ground within two weeks of parking it.

Sheet metal needs a little work - none on it, you'll have to search far and wide to find the sheet metal.

Implements included - You're getting a bar rake with no teeth, a baler with no wheels or needles, a plow with no moldboards, and a disc with no blades.

Parts included - I dug into the engine and this is what was left over when I put it back together.

Tires fair - they hold air if you keep the compresser running.

Needs some TLC - needs to hitch a ride to the scrap dealer.

I've been pretty blessed when it comes to buying tractors so far but my time to be burned bad is coming...

sometimes the best thing you can say is "I'm sure it worked the last time it was used"

Here in the UK if a dealer dose work on a machine before he sells it he often says it has bee through the workshop. A few years ago a friend bought a used combine witch the dealer said it had been through the workshop and was in good working order. When my friend started to use the combine it kept breaking down he complained to the dealer and told him that if it had been through the workshop the must have opened the doors at each end and drove the combine straight through the workshop without stopping

could add this one:
Once looked at one that advertised "A honey of a deal". I determined it to be a honey of a deal for the seller and a "honey bucket" of a deal for the buyer.

And dont buy one that has been used on a grinder.

What you see is what you get. And what you cant see you also get. Like mabe a cracked head.

Bought two with really bad engines. Fixed the wrong one and took the other to auction.
