This is somewhat off topic but hope I can get some help from this site. For the past three years my sons have helped me rebuild and restore the old family tractor. It has been great to work with them on this project. As a reward I told them they could pick the next project for us to work on together. I was hoping for a tractor but got a surprise when they picked a 69 Dodge Charger. They would like to rebuild it to match the Gen Lee of the Dukes. I know these models are getting costly. Would anyone know where one might be located or a site like this one for cars. While I think I might have gotten myself into a problem, maybe it will be a fun experience. It has been quality time with my sons. Thanks for any help.

If it will help some of the cars used for the Gen. Lee were 68's and some were 70's as these 2 years were close to the 69's and only required minor changes in grilles, trim, etc.

You might try allpardotcom, choose forums and then rear drive muscle cars.

Look around for some of the other year chargers besides the 69's. You might be albe to get them cheaper. Also, if you buy one with the 318 as opposed to the 440, you could save some $$.

Hey, now thats a project!. I've seen them regularly in I think it's "Special Interest Cars", a car trader magazine that Walmart and probably countless other places sell, lots of old really cool cars in there, and lots of project cars that are in various stages of finished to out behind the barn shape. Probably the cheapest way to go would be to buy one all done, but then that wouldn't be a project. Yeah, I'd say you'd have to plan on spending atleast $20,000 to end up with a good one, weither you buy one all done or buy a project for cheap, but then have to spend boatloads of cash on restoring it, then your going to have to spend some bucks on drivetrain, because a car like the General Lee has a huge reputation to uphold, I'd want no less than 400hp under the hood. Good luck.

Not all of the cars used in the show were Chargers. They tore them up way too fast to be able to replace them with the real thing, so they used other models that had the same body lines. Once you paint it orange and put the number 7 on the door, they all looked the same to the camera. I don't know why you couldn't do the same thing. You could buy a model with less popularity, and turn it into a charger using reproduction parts.

There was an article in Mopar Muscle about the General Lee a few years back, they were all '69's and they were all Chargers.

I think you're right, 38 was one of them, not sure of the others.

Daisy's number, like Bo Derek's, was 10. IMHO.

Well at least the parts for them can be found, but hold on to your back pocket. I had a 68 years ago and loved it but that was also when gas was down around 0.75 a gallion. Best engine for that one is the 440 mag, but you will watch the gas gauge go down if you put your foot in to it.

Hang onto your wallet. The values of those cars, as with most of the cars from that era, has increased substantially. You'll wish the boys had chosen another old tractor. Check out this forum.

I imagine Daisy is now a resident of a Hollywood retirement home and what was once standing up, probably lays on her belly now! Let's see..that show was on in what..the late 70's-early 80's? I figure Daisy was in her early 30's then...so add at least 25 years to about 32..and you come up with 57! I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she is 60 now.
