We are new to the tractor world and would really like to get into restoration. However, we must not be looking hard enough, because all we can find for sale are fully restored or new tractors. We live in central Florida and we attend the Flywheelers" shows in Ft.Meade all the time, but no luck there, either. Can anyone give us a shove in the right direction? Any resources you could suggest would be great. Thanks!

LISA- I TOO AM INTERESTED IN TRACTOR RESTORATION. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TAKE YOUR TIME AND A LOT OF WEEKEND TRIPS TO ENJOY THE COUNTRY. I LIVE S.E. OF MACON GA AND TO BE HONEST WITH YOU. TRACTORS ARE SITTING(rusting)in a lot of yards,sheds,lean-tos,barns,fields as well as hedgerows, fencerows and treelines along branches.HEAD NORTH,GET OFF INTERSTATE ON ANY BACK COUNTRY GEORGIA RED DIRT ROAD AND KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN. THOUGH SOME OF THEM MAY LOOK ABUSED, THEY WERE MORE NEGLECTED. THAT BEING MY OPINION. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US POSTED

Try your local paper, post a message at the local feed store or tractor supply.Ask your postman if you have a RFD mailbox ,they travel the back roads everyday and may have seen a tractor sitting somewhere. Most gas stations around where I live have some type of trade magazines so you might try to find one in your area. Good Luck

As simple as it may sound,I find the best results finding the "in between" tractors ( the good ones with some history behind them in between the junk and the restored ones) by running want adds in local papers. The last one I "shook loose" was a '50 B and " complete" set of 2 row quick-tatch cultivators from an old farmer who had loved the tractor for the last 35 yrs. His neighbors said it could never be bought. He only lives 30 miles away and wasn't really thinking of selling it til he saw my add. The tractor holds a lot of memories for him and I promised him he could come over this summer when I get it restored and drive it again and do a picture session. This is what I mean by getting something with some history behind it . You get the satisfaction of the restoration and in some cases just might make a big difference in the life of the previous owner. By the way, I paid his asking price of 1500.00 but the reunion of him and this tractor will be priceless. His wife has a little dimentia but he is doing fine. Hope seeing the B in better than new condition will make their day. I will try my best to get this kind of "history" behind any tractor I buy. It might be something for you to think about while shopping for one. It don't cost any more than one without a recordable past or with 10 previous owners.

If you have an idea of a brand you'd like to start with, then I'd start looking looking around on brand specific boards and websites. I think that way you won't be quite so overwhelmed if offers and information and all that. There are of course the brand specific boards associated with this sight, and a google search should turn up other. When you kind of narrow things down that way people can help you select models and point you to specific tractors that they know of even. Also watch Ebay, just like here don't believe everything you see and read but you can get an idea of what some things are selling for. Good luck.

One of the first places to look is the photo ads here on yesterday's tractors: Photo Ads

A couple other places that I look are: www.ironsearch.com

(For some reason they don't allow me to type the address fo the other one I use. I guess they consider them a competitor? Just don't use the spaces and you'll have to type it in yourself. It is:

Tractor
House.com

Is there anything in particular that you are looking for? Farmall Hs and Ms are plentiful, as are John Deere As, Bs, etc. Plenty of other makes available also, but maybe not as plentiful. It also depends on how far you want to drive to bring the tractor home, or what you are willing to pay to have it delivered. You can also check out eBay,go to business and industrial, agriculture and forestry, antique and classic tractors.
