I emailed a seller in an adjoining state regarding 3 questions I had about condition (not price) of a tractor he advertised here. The following is the answer I received back. Really makes for a good seller/buyer relationship.

"Mr. Scamartist;
You think you are dealing with a idiot maybe? Ill keep my tractor and you keep the questions to yourself, OK? I know when someone is trying to steal my things. And I do not deal with you migrients!"

Hi "Scamp",
Another scenario - have you thought that perhaps the seller was the scamartist? Maybe his description was not all it should have been, and he answered like that to hide the real condition of the tractor?
Until we know all the details we are unable to decide one way or the other, so waiting to read all the correspondence is the key to the decision.
BTW I often ask questions to see how the replies tie in with the initial description. Can often give a good idea of whether the vendor is up-front or trying to be a bit cute by avoiding answering the question (like nearly all politicians).
Regards, RAB

His reply probably was not as stupid or "off the wall" as it seems at first glance!

You didn't say where the tractor is listed for sale, so I don't know if the following applies:

There is a new scam going around (ebay) where someone emails you asking for more information on an item you are selling, and when you click on "reply", and fill out the requested information, your ebay password is directed to a non ebay site, and your information is stolen.

I have gotten several of these lately, asking about items I'm not even selling.

So, your seller may have heard part of the story on this scam, and is being cautious, before replying the emails requesting more information. Sad, isn't it, when even our old tractor community has to be invaded by such scum, who have no interest in old tractors, just use the trust amongst us to exploit and steal!

By the way, as to the ebay scam, I guess you can log into your ebay account, and see if the message appears there, meaning it is (supposedly) legit, before replying.

I'm curious to the questions asked to invoke a response like that.

Were you asking directions to the tractor? Other equipment available?

Pretty basic questions regarding any mechanical problems, original paint, 3pt assembly.

But I guess since I'm within a couple of months of turning 60, and still reside within 50 miles of where I was born and raised...that probably qualifies me as a "migrient". Hard to put any trust in those type of people.

Well, I've got to get to work. You guys have a good President's Day.

The level of intellect is also reveled by the spelling of "migrants".
