The pigment in paint is the expensive part,so when you buy the "cheap" stuff from the implement and TSC type places you know what you have to look forward to. Most of the "old" tractors really looked old when they were only a couple of years old. If you are restoring an old tractor or anything else and you only want to do it once and look nice a long time then go with top notch automotive refinish system..expensive but worth it!!!

There was a couple of years during the war where IH had trouble getting the pigments for the paint, so they substituted some other pigments. As these tractors aged, and the paint faded, some of them did fade to pink, and others, depending on which pigments were use, faded to orange. In later years when these old Farmalls were repainted, sometimes less than top quality paint was used, and most of those economy paint jobs faded out to pink in about 2 years or less.

Rusty: I know what your saying. I had a guy clean up and do a paint job on my SA about 15 years ago. About 1 year later it turned a purple-pink. I questioned what he used, turns out it was Candy Apple Red. You can see it in Photo gallery, I've since taken a spray can to the sheet metal, just wanted to cover were his paint didn't stay on, thus keep it from rusting. My spray can job on the sheet metal looks better than the chassis.

My old war year H was pink with sun fade. I was told war year paint turned pink with age.

That might be the very rare Brokeback Mountain model made in San Francisco.
