Ok here is the deal. I have to get rid of alot of tractors for a friend of mine. So it's basically like I'm going to be a dealer. Is there any way that I could get some kind of value for old tractors or anything along that line. It is basically all John Deere tractors and I don't want to charge to much nor do I want to charge to little. What are some of the things that you need to look at when you are selling a tractor. I know that it has to run and run good. But what are the other things? Correct me if I'm wrong. I think you need to look at the tires, paint condision, tractor condision, what it has on it that is extra. on and on. Thanks much YTMAG

Thank you oldfarmtractor Glider souNdguy JDknut for your help. The rest of you are dissing me. you may think you aren"t but you are. I DO NOT like that. I know alot more than you think. I just simply wanted to know what you list with the tractor to sell it. I did not want a whole bunch of crap. Thank you to the 4 people who gave me what I wanted. And I wonder why young people don"t come in to the tractor world. Thanks again to oldfarmtractor Glider souNdguy JDknut Jamason

I have to wonder why someone with a lot of tractors would hire someone who knows very little if anything about them, to sell them for him.

Sounds kind of like the lawyer who represents himself in court.

Check Fastline.com and the IT used tractor price guide to see what any given make and model of tractor is going for, this can be a guide as to what to ask.

Simple find a good auctioneer that has a good following with old tractors and plan a sale

if you are "brand new at this" the best thing you can do for your friend is help him find an experienced seller

Make it easy on yourself and your friend. Contact an auction company company in your area. These guys are professionals, and it is in their best interest to make sure the tractors sell for what they are worth. Auctioneers work on a commission basis, the higher the dollar value, the more commission he makes. Good for both you, your friend, and the auction company.

post model and (sn's or years ).. and pics if possible. We can at least help you ballpark them. Some jd's are still collectable, even if not currently running, as restoration 'cores'.

Also.. you may be inclined to give discounts to volume purchasers.. I.E. the ardent collector who pulls up with a flatbed and says "lets see how many will fit on".. and has a decent lump of cash in his pocket.. etc.

I found a book at Tractor supply , Illustrated buyers guide "John Deere two cylinder tractor" by Robert N Pripps. They also carry other books. Where you are at in the country makes a difference also. Good Luck

If you do some research, you can find prices for many tractors on this site. Using either the photo ads or the classifieds, you might get a feeling for what they might be worth.

Pictures are always a good idea when you sell something. If you can get a few for each tractor, have them available.

Other sites might be useful for price ideas.. ie, www.wisfarmer.com

Good luck and I will we watching for the sales.
