I have a general question for the group. I've been thinking for years about tracking down my dad's and grandpa's old tractor. I know its a needle in a haystack thing but would anyone have some suggestions about how to go about it? The farm was outside Firth Nebraska and went to auction in the mid 70's when grandpa retired. I'm working to find the auction company and see if they have records of the sale to chase it down that way. Have any of you done something like this and had any luck?

thanks for any help you may give.

Doug

Looking for the S.N.? Don"t forget to look in any old Bank papers, it may be listed for a loan, or morgage. Also it may be listed on Insurance papers, as an item that was covered.

Hi Doug,

Haven't ever tracked down a tractor, but I've been thru the auction thing. :>(

When the auctioneers settled up with your grandpa/dad on that sale, they would have given him his money less their payment and also would have turned over the consignment list of everything that sold that day, for how much and who it went to.

That list is in your family somewhere. I really doubt if the auctioneer has a copy at this late date.

If you know the serial number you could search the serial number registry on this site.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Really appreciate it. I didn't think of running an ad. I'm inquiring with my parents about it. I'll keep you posted if I can track down the SN# or any related data.

Doug
